Atlanta/Southeast MSTS Group

Way back in 2001, Rob (Dokkensound) Easterday made a post in the Train Sim Forums to mention that the Southeastern Railway Museum had recently completed it's move from their old location to their new, larger facilities.

He added to this by asking if anyone in the Atlanta, or surrounding area, would be interested in getting together for an outing to visit their museum.

The idea of getting together with other folks with an interest in trains sounded pretty good to me, as with Rob, and to find out-two other guys.

Unbeknownst to us at the time, this was the start of several more outings.

On the second outing, we jokingly coined the name "Atlanta MSTS Group". On our third outing, we changed that to "Atlanta/Southeast MSTS Group".

Later in the same year as our first outing, we got together again and rode the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. Two of the guys from the first trip couldn't make this one, but we were joined by two new friends.

In June of 2002, we got together again. This trip was to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. One of the guys that made the first outing, but couldn't make the second one, was able to join us this time, along with three that were on the second trip (four counting me). We were also joined by four new friends. We seemed to be growing and gaining friends along the way.

In April of 2003, we got together again. We drove down to Cordele Georgia and rode the Sam's Shortline. This time it was just three of us from the last outing, but we met another new friend.

In October of 2003, we made our last-to date-outing. We rode the Tennessee Valley Railroad from Chattanooga to Summerville. This time it was just three of us from previous trips, and again, we made two new friends. On this trip, one of the regulars brought his wife and one of the new friends brought his wife.

A few of us have got together for lunch a couple of times, but unfortunately, after the fifth outing, we haven't got together again. That was about a year and a half ago. I did have lunch with one guy just the other day and I still swap emails with a couple of others. Sure would be nice to have one more get-together and maybe take a ride on "The Great Smokey Mountain Railway".

Friends that have joined us on one or more outings, including their Train Sim Forum usernames.
