The Southern Railway's Crescent E8 #6901 was manufactured in 1951 by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors. Originally numbered 2924, it ran the famed Crescent line from Atlanta, Georgia to Washington, D.C.

At this point, I'm getting conflicting information. According to the SRHA (Southern Railway Historical Association) web site, it was donated to them in 1979. According to the Southeastern Railway Museum, it was formerly changed from Southern Railway to Amtrack in 1979.

In 1987, the movie "Angel Heart" was released, staring Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, Charlotte Rampling, and Lisa Bonet, and featured #6901 in a brief scene at the station in New Orleans. At the time, it wasn't operational so it had to be pushed into the station for the filming.

In, or around, 1988, the 6901 was leased by the New Georgia Railway, painted in a Central of Georgia paint scheme, and ran excursions until the New Georgia ended service in 1993. It was then painted back into the Southern Railway colors and is currently on display at the Southeastern Railway Museum.
