Creating Introductory Train Rides (ITR)
A brief tutorial on converting any activity to an ITR
By Frank Thomas

Download the Word (.doc) file.
The download also includes the fixed files if you don't want to mess with editing them yourself.

Note:
This will not test out interactive movements as in shunting, but it will run the route.

Open an activity file ('your_activity.act') and change the file mode from 2 to 0 (see below)

CompleteActivity ( 1 )
Type ( 0 )
Mode ( 2 ) [change to Mode ( 0)]
StartTime ( 14 0 0 )
Season ( 3 )
Weather ( 1 )
PathID ('your_new_activity')
StartingSpeed ( 0 )

Saving your new ITR.

You make another folder inside the Activities folder, call it whatever you like "ITR copies".

Now the Activity you want to use as ITR, e.g. 'your_new_activity' (normal title)

Alter title to 'ITR_your_new_activity' (ITR version), just add ITR on the front and put it in the ITR copies folder to save.
Don't forget, any you rename, alter its Mode to "0" to work.

You get rid of all the talking normally used by the ITR by going into the Global/Tutor-and removing all the contents on the itr.kst and itr.tut files leaving the files empty but still in place.

You can only have one ITR in any one route, so you take whichever ITR you want to use from the ITR Copies folder and place it into the main activities folder.

If the main folder has already got an ITR in, remove it and place it in the ITR Copies folder to save, and keep it Isolated.

You can only load one ITR at a time, as the game will only look at one, if you have more than one ITR in each of the Activities folder you may upset the game.

As far as I am aware all the Driving aids will work.

If the headlights usually work, they should work in ITR, but you have to switch them on. (Headlights H for half on, H again for full)

Also the Monitor F4 works just the same, Head up F5, and all the rest.

Station names will come up F10 but will not function fully.

Get rid of the drivers panel by using shift -1 and bring up the longitude and latitude by hitting "0"

I use it on any thing, especially new routes, and activities, to test them out.

I can let it run (and stop it hitting esc), and make observations and notes without having to concentrate on driving.

Generally, if it runs OK in this Mode, it will run OK in the Games normal way
