Well, just doing a little testing.

http://hawks-web.com/rev2/new_index4.html

If you're using IE6 I don't know what it's going to look like. Right now I haven't set up any IE hacks. I've only written code for Firefox and it seems to be OK in IE7.

Edit 1: Well *******. I just looked at it at 1024 X 768 and it isn't right yet. The nav box images don't go all the way down.
Looks good at 1280 X 1024 which is what I normally run at.
More work to do but you get the basic idea.

This machine is running IE 6.0.2800.

I see a green center block,
two blue wings and orange on top under the title.

There you go with that green again.
The center area is tan, as seen in this screenshot, taken in Firefox at 1280 X 1024.

Here's a shot from my wife's computer, running IE6 at 1024 X 768.

I had to do a little editing on the blue side bars. It just wasn't working like I had hoped. They don't go all the way to the bottom of the nav block and so far I haven't figured out a way to do it.
I'm starting to get a bit frustrated and may just blow this design off and start a new one.

I'm seeing the same thing as you, Ed, in those two shots above us there. I'm using Firefox. I don't mess with IE anything unless I just have too but this new rig of mine has IE7 on it.

Didn't like that orange banner.

That last view there is pretty good, the blue contrasts nicely with the biege and the color of the text. I think you are getting a lot closer, don't you?

Yea, I think it's coming along nicely, thanks to all the tips and suggestions by y'all. {,0,}

...and now with preliminary drop down menus.

http://hawks-web.com/rev2/new_index6.html

Right now only the first link on each side has the drop down and those links don't go anywhere - yet.

Test! Test! 1 - 2 - Test!

I like this header batter...

I'm not sure I'd call them drop downs, they're more like 'explode opens'...

I like the screen shot with the tan center section.

The link is now a much better shade of green in the center section. It could be my computer doing this as the forum has, at times, some color shifts as well.

I was going to try a screen shot of the link, but forgot how to do a screen shot. At least what I tried didn't work.

It was my computer . I changed to 1024-768 and the link now has a tan center. It was set at 1280-and something, from the test I did yesterday.

As it stands I'm pretty happy with the layout. I still want to make a couple of small changes but it's pretty much done.
Now the fun begins. I started working on the content this morning only to realize I have a lot of work to do. Probably won't see any updates from me here in this thread for a while.
When I'm done with the content I'll post a link, then all y'all have to do is choose a restaurant and come on down.
Bring plenty of money. I am accepting donations.

Hey Hawk,

Be sure and put that greasy spoon we ate at a few years back. Would like to write a review on it.

Uhm?????? Do you recall the name of it, or any details about it? My memory isn't that great.

Seems to me it was in Emerson, on the south (or is that west) side of the road. You go in and I think it might have had a bar, but maybe it was just a lunch counter. We sat at a little postage-stamp table in the middle of the room.

I do know it was crowded and I thought the food was pretty good.

Ah! That must have been Doug's Place. The only restaurant in Emerson.
No bar. No lunch counter. Good food.
Last time Debbie and I were in there we saw the cook drop some food on the floor, reached down and picked it up and threw it back on the grill. Haven't been in there since.
