CD needed

Hey,
Im just wishing to clarify if there is any way to run the game with the 1.06 patch without the game disc.
Basically the situation is, I have a friend who really likes the game, but has to play it on a Mac though Cross Over http://www.codeweavers.com/products/, which is basically a windows emulator similar to WINE.
Unfortunately there seems to be a bug somewhere, in that using the emulator, even if u have the game disc in the drive, the game does not recognise it, and says there is no disc inserted, we have got around this with earlier versions of RRT3,
however I am not aware of any way to get around it with the 1.06 patch,
any help or suggestions would be awesome,
