Hi all!
My name is Florian from Holland. I registered on this forum because games like Railroad Tycoon 3 are not made anymore and I think we should keep great games like Railroad Tycoon 3 alive!
I hope I can contribute to this forum. :)

We're all trying to keep the game alive, but sadly, activity on the forum, and the web site, has died down a bit lately. :-(

Welcome Aboard Florian! !!howdy!!

Long time RT3 fan/modder . !!jabber!! Started tinkering with RT3 again about a month ago after building a new computer a year ago and then getting 8gb of some fast new RAM a month ago and have been putting RT3 into a RAM Disk for working on maps & mods. WOW! The game will fire up from map select in around 3 seconds!! :-D The endless starting/reloading into editor of maps that used to take me about 3 minutes loading each way on my old Celeron/40 mbs HDD has ben reduced to a blink. I used to get up and grab some coffee or go feed the chickens in the time it took to load RT3. It only takes about 30 seconds to load the whole 3 gb RT3 folder (from 500 mbs/s SSD ;-) ) The game will actually fire up in about 15 seconds from the SSD alone, but the RAM Disk load speeds are a thing of beauty after years of waiting for maps to load to check each programming step when working on maps. I have a new Colorado Railroad Boom circa 1869 map coming along the line on the near future. It is pretty elaborate, having 10 established companies. The player can select any of the established companies, or start his own. Each company (D&RG,UP,SanteFE. Coors, etc etc) has distinct attributes and it's own Medal conditions. Map is currently around 90% (Needs trees and a new paint job basically) and about half of the programming is up and running for the Companies. This obviously means dozens of command pages for each company, requiring about as many test runs to verify programming and find bugs, using the RAM Disk to check things really makes things a lot quicker.

Enjoy your ride here, if you are in to mapping or modding, you will find lots of help from the community. If you just like to play RT3, then that's fine too! You will find the biggest best collection of scenarios and Mods for RT3 anywhere right here at Hawk's site.

(*!!wel aboard, FlorianF

It's always great to welcome a new RT3 fan. Do you play only or do you also create maps? If so, I'm impatiently waiting for them. :-D

Welcome!! :)

Yes, it's been more quiet lately, but I don't believe it means that people don't play RRT3 anymore. It's an ageless simulation and it works great in many modern computers. Actually, only the very fast computers of today finally let us take RRT3 to its limits! *!*!*! I'm (yes, STILL) doing final testing with my gigantic Great China 4 scenario which probably stresses RRT3 and the PC more than the designers of the game even thought possible. Imagine over 600 trains running between up to 210 cities (and countless more lesser traffic destinations) with more than a million trees, huge mountain ranges, everything... It's hard to image myself ever getting bored with all that - there are endless ways to tackle China and its traffic challenges. For the same reason it's impossible for me to imagine stopping playing RRT3 - especially as long as we users create new, great, detailed content all the time. RRT3 is now even more fun than it was years ago; it looks better, plays better - and it can, unbelievably, still punish even the most modern computers!

Talking about a well designed game or what? ;) Only a RRT4 might (?) one day replace it. But that can still take a while, so let's enjoy RRT3! (0!!0)
