Welcome aboard. :salute:

If you look through this forum (RT III Installation) you'll find a couple other topics already started about Win 7 that should help you.

If none of the topics already started didn't help, you'll have to give a lot more information about your problem and installation. As much detail as possible.

That's not much help, considering so many other folks have got it to work in Win 7.
You'll need to give more detail about your problem.

Are you installing from a cd or is this a Steam version?

If you're installing from a cd, did you install it in the C:\Program Files (86) folder? If so, that's may be your problem.

Are you trying to patch it?

Without more details, we can't help much.

As Hawk said, more info is better here.

The Steam version of the game can be troublesome. Others have had trouble with it. An example: viewtopic.php?p=40999#p40999.

You could try going through this thread: viewtopic.php?p=37970#p37970. This guy patched the exe to fix the blurry textures, he had the CD, but he was launching with Steam (don't know the reason you have the Steam version).

If you don't need Steam, the GoG or disk versions will work with Win 7, a certain percentage (based on graphics card) will need the Hardware Transformation and Lighting disabled (know as the Vista Fix). An alternative to disabling that: You could install these files: viewtopic.php?p=40962#p40962.

Try copying these files into the game folder: viewtopic.php?p=40962#p40962.

ETA, Feb 2017: Better solution has been found: viewtopic.php?p=42169#p42169. :-D

Try doing what RulerofRails suggested and see if that works.

You may also want to look at the steam forums for the game were people were able to get the steam version working.

Blackhawk, those should be helpful for the Steam folks. !*th_up*!

The first link is interesting because it instructs to use 3 files from the wined3d emulation. This is the same principle as the files I linked to, except that his doesn't use the d3d8.dll file, instead using a ddraw.dll file. More importantly, it is from a DIFFERENT version of wined3d so they aren't interchangeable. Probably there is little difference, except that the old blurry textures fixing using a CUSTOM d3d8.dll can likely be used more easily if you don't want to replace/patch your exe file directly. Will fiddle with it in Win 8.1 when I get bored.

Well, I tried the alternative wined3d method from the Steam forum (first link in Blackhawk's post above). I am pretty sure that I followed the instructions, and tried in two different installs. It didn't work for me in Win 8.1 x64. I still need the Vista Fix: I can't run the game without Disabling Hardware Textures & Lighting. :-(

Don't know what else to say about this. It's unfortunate. It must have worked for this guy and hopefully others. :-?

ETA: I've only had the one Win 8.1 machine. Because it uses Nvidia graphics I assume that it needs the Vista Fix. Perhaps this method IS of use to those who don't need the Vista Fix, thanks to their hardware being more friendly. It's a pure guess though.
