Holocaust Memorial Train

Unread postby nedfumpkin » Wed Apr 23, 2008 7:00 pm

I read an article in Haaretz today about a steam engine pulling vintage carriages with holocaust stuff in Germany. The article was about the controversy surrounding it...nothing about the train. I tried to find more information, but still its only about the controversy surrounding its route, and stations etc. Still, nothing about the train itself.

Hust passing along the intel in case someone comes across more information, or if anyone is in Berlin, perhaps the lucky can check it out.

There was a news story on it last week. The train is traveling around bringing the story of the Holocaust through the country, least we forget. So many went to their deaths in boxcars, so trains have a different meaning for survivors and their families than most of the rest of us.

Of course, blaming what happened on those trains ranks right up there in stupidity with those who blame guns for killing people, blaming the planes that crashed on 9/11, and blaming the chemicals (many made by Bayer, yes, of Bayer Aspirin fame) used in the Nazi gas chambers.

I could not find anything more about Der Zug der Erinnerung (The Train of Memory or Train of Commemoration) than you could ned, and usually I'm pretty good at searching things. The Train of Memory Foundation, if they have a website, must have it in German and not English. **!!!**

My Deutch is a bit weak:

Einer dampflok: A Steam Engine?

das Triebfahrzeug des Zuges: This is the name of the engine? Dig out your Deutch-English dictionary

Triebfahrzeug translated into "traction"

JUST AS I THOUGHT - MY FAVORITE EUROPEAN ENGINE - A P8!

Guess I'm better at searching than I thought.
