Test your PC for Games

Unread postby Hawk » Sun Aug 31, 2008 12:11 pm

I posted this in another thread but figured some of you may not see it so I'm posting it here too.

For those interested, you can test your PC to see if it can run certain games by going to this site http://www.srtest.com/referrer/srtest and select the game you want to test for.
You'll have to let the site install an ActiveX Applet to run (and if you're running Firefox with the 'No Scripts' plug-in, you'll need to allow scripts for the site only) it but I haven't found anything harmful by doing so.

Here's another of the same. It, too, will access your PC but I haven't found any issues with it and it also has a forum you may ask questions on.
(I've used this one for a few years, now, btw.)

I've used that site before, it's good for a general estimation of if you can play a game or not but I wouldn't necessarily guarantee that what it says will be correct. I've had it say I couldn't play a game, but based on the requirements that the game stated I should have been able to play the game (and I was able to). While another time it said I could play the game but the game didn't want to run.

The links offered are not good anymore
Are there any newer Tests?
I'm wondering if my woes are due to my very old machine. :-( :-( :-(

I just tried the link in my first post and it worked fine for me.
What game are you trying to test for?

You are right (again, ******)
Your link works, but not for RRT3 or TM (not listed) **!!!**
I do have an old dell optiplex GX620 and when testing it for some HD games everything was ok except for the graphics card.
I guess I have to open the bank again... Ooohhhh, what wouldn' I do for RRT3/TM

Well, first off, it's not going to show TM anywhere, since it's not an official game by anyone (You do know TM was created by members here, right? ;-) ).
Second, RT3 is such an old game it's not going to show up in that list.

The read me that came with the cd version of RT3 does list the System Requirements.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
OS: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
CPU: 400 MHz
RAM: 128 MB
Video Card: 16 MB 3D
Disk Space: 1.2 GB
Other: 4X CD-ROM, Mouse and Keyboard, DirectX compatible Sound card
with speakers/headphones recommended

Railroad Tycoon 3 has been successfully tested with the following video card chipsets/families:

NVidia: GeForce (all versions), TNT 1 and 2, NForce
ATI: Radeon (all versions), Rage 128, Rage Pro, Rage Fury Maxx
Intel: 810, 845, 865 (a.k.a. 'Intel Extreme' and 'Intel 3D Direct' graphics)
S3: ProSavage, S4 Savage, Savage 2000 (See Troubleshooting – 5 I)
SiS: 300/305/650/651/740
Matrox: Parhelia, G400/450/550
PowerVR: Kyro I and II
3DFX: Voodoo 3, Banshee, Voodoo 5 5500 (See Troubleshooting – 5 H)
3Dlabs: Oxygen VX1/Glint R3
Trident: Blade T16

Note: Even if your chipset is not on the above list, it should work, provided you have current drivers (Direct X 8.1 or above) for it.
