Thank you - but there's a problem, Hawk says. I'm going to upload the original spreadsheet so hold on till I do that, please.
I see what you mean about the paper for admin and for packaging. The packaging is part of the product, yes. I've worked in offices in mills and engineering works and all sorts and the needs of the admin team are the same whatever the product - paper, electronics, mail generated and demanded, alcohol for the office party, the list could be endless when you think about it!
I'll try and upload the spreadsheet now.

That spread-sheet came out much better than the docs. !*th_up*!

Good. I just realised, to get the absolutely accurate information you use Wolvey's excellent pdf - I'd forgotten about that but now I've got both the spreadsheet and the pdf open alongside the game in the other account, and this open in this one. My computer looks like the bridge of the USS Enterprise!
By the way, ned - notice I said "office party" in my previous post, not "Christmas party" ^**lylgh
Got to go now - the old man will be home from the pub soon demanding his tea!!!

A couple of observations - I notice you're able to change the newspaper headlines. Does this mean you can incorporate other features of 1.06? Because if so, I would dearly love to have that automatic pause at year end which Wolvey mentioned earlier.

And about the test map itself. I've turned off the special conditions as I think it's enough of a challenge learning about the industries without coping with no stock market and unconnected track. That's meant I can get the logs and pulpwood a bit sooner without miles of wasted tracks.

I'm noticing that the oil refinery isn't producing as it should so I am currently working on getting that right. I had the same problem with another industry and it's a matter of trying different cargo recipes until the right one works. Just to let you know that I'm on it.

Here's a spreadsheet that lists the major structures (buildings/industries) and the sources and sinks of cargos. It's not completely up to date, but makes a handy reference for what comes from where and goes to where. The abbreviations are my own, but are for the most part mnemonics of the structures. Not as graphic as Ruth's, but more compact.

.....and far more comprehensive! !$th_u$! I'm building up a nice library of TrainMaster stuff now.
Can't get anywhere with this scenario, though. I'm tempted to get rid of the financial constraints altogether because I keep losing my money or losing the company or something. I'm just not one of nature's capitalists, I'm afraid.

I've given up trying to make this work as it is and I've made a few alterations - nothing major and I've not interfered with the basic concepts of the map or Ned's events. I've tried to create a bit more demand by making the cities bigger (and a couple more). I was able to play 20 years and connect the required cities without any financial disasters - this was just on a run-through without any industry at all.
I've also, as a temporary measure, given some chemicals to the port at Eastport so we're not held up waiting for the 'maintenance work' on the chemical plant, etc.
Sorry to say, ned, the Amish event doesn't work. I've had a look at it and I can't see why not, it looks OK to me.
Anyway, the industry's the main thing. Here's the map:

First thing I have to say is ow. Not for anything RT3 related, but rather from going from one end of the coliseun to the other, and up and down every stair; usually with a burden, for the 15 hours yesterday. And most of the time there is a bagpipe somewhere in the background. Ow..I'm getting old and I feel it.

I'll give your map a try Ruth. I've never thought the test map as I made it was all that great so no worries and no apologies necessary. I have to admit that I would rather spend time creating one of the other scenarios I am working on than the test map, so it's a basic as possible.

The Amish Event is coded incorrectly. An event like this (Territory Access) can't be applied to "All Territories", it must be applied to each one individually. I've done this on the attached version of the map. I "loosened up" the economy a bit, set the starting date back to 1900 (to lessen the chance of the target Meat Packer having upgraded itself), opened up the Stock Market, and spawned some of the raw materials producers. I think I also tweaked the Warehouse/Ports a bit and allowed a few more locos than were in one of the original maps from Ned. I've found it much easier to progress and be profitable and be able to test the game engine and workings. With Ned's recent tweaks (I've been playing my current run-through with the "i" patch) things are much better. (Hint: Machinery is in great demand. I have three upgraded Machine Shops clustered together, and they're all cranking out stuff at near maximum levels thanks to the two upgraded Steel Mills, an Upgraded Textile Mill and several Tanneries providing materials to the Shops). Haven't gotten to the Glass and Electronics phase yet, but so far things are going well and I'm making lots of profit, both from purchased pre-built industries, and several of my own, built in strategic locations. My map name was also #3, but I renamed the ZIP file to 3A. The actual map name has an underscore before the "3", so it should still be distinguishable from yours Ruth.

I'm gonna let you two battle it out, and then when the dust settles, I'll pick up the pieces and post the map to the download page and replace the version there. Translation: tomorrow. :)

I look forward to givng the map a go since I am the first to admit that my test map bites.

Battle it out? Listen, Wolvey is one of my few political allies, we're not going to have any fights! Besides, I {,0,} to his greater knowledge and expertise on all things RT. Please, post his map as the "official" test map!!
What on earth were you doing to get yourself in the state you're in? With a bagpipe? Am I going to regret asking?

I'm volunteering at an exhibition of military music.

Tremendous! I love that stuff. Yorkshire and the north of England generally is very big on brass bands, not military music exclusively but a lot of it is marches, etc. Do you know of the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band - one of the most famous brass bands? It's based near where I work and I have actually been in the same hall as them when they were rehearsing - what a thrill that was. And how about that scene in "Tunes of Glory"? "didit,didit,dah...didit,didit,dah..." -sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it. Wow!
Sorry, completely (*!!topic (*!!topic - lost the plot altogether!!
Anyway the reason I was actually posting was to say that I don't have Hawk's problem with chemicals. The oil refinery is making them OK, but it seems to prefer petroleum and makes a few loads of that before it gets onto the chemicals. I remember this used to happen (maybe in RT2) when an industry makes two different things you can't control which one it makes first or most of. So be patient, Hawk!
