Trainmaster Alpha 2.0

Unread postby nedfumpkin » Mon Aug 03, 2009 6:00 pm

I've just uploaded a copy of the first finished files for the Alpha 2 version. Consider this the Alpha 2 alpha. :)

Hawk, if you could please post the link once you have a chance. You'll most like see two files since I cancelled the first upload because I forgot to include the exe in the zip. Go with the 25 meg file.

There is no readme in this file so all the instructions are right here. What this has are the first completed pk4 files for what will become the beta version, then the final. This has the new exe file.

The first thing to do is to back up your files.

Delete the Alpha_Patch.pk4 file in the Data\2D folder.

Delete all the files in the Data\BuildingTypes folder.

Delete all the files in the Data\EngineTypes folder.

Unzip the files into their respective folders, overwriting files that you didn't have to delete.

.........................

Although there have been minor changes to the cargo files, they aren't included right now because I am in the middle of putting together freight cars and I would have to change everything back to what in the first alpha patches. This will be coming next with the freight car paks.

Also to come are the campaign files. Although not everything is finished...okay, hardly even started, the files are place holders for when they campaigns are finished they can be easily installed.

You will most likely notice a number of duplicates wth company logos. The default logos are the same as what is listed for the players. All of the associated companies have a logo, and I still have to sort out which are duplicates. If anyone wants a logo from the orginal set, I can make it up as a separate file.

--------------------------

The language file is always a work in progress, but the new one reflects all the changes so far. The campaign stuff is still not finished. Also included are the ambient sounds associated with the different buildings. Industries that were removed have been changed to industries that were added.

----------------

The recycling plant has been removed from the game. The reclamation facility replaces it. The reason was that it caused confusion, and the recycling plant could not be altered to be made profitable, or have its cargo recipe changed. Removing it will prevent confusion.

-----------

The Immigration building from JayEff has been added. This is a source of passengers without a demand. 3 loads per year, and it demands 1 load of paper. Has to be placed or added.

--------------------

Please Note:

Previous versions of Trainmaster maps will not function properly in this new version due to file name changes. Some new maps will be coming very soon. Conversions can be made relatively easily. But it might just be better to start over in some cases.

I promise not to change any more file names, and i only did it this time with great trepidation, but I believe it was worth it in the long run.

In any event, this will let you have a look at all the changes that I've been working on for the last couple of months.

Alpha 2 Files: Refer to the above for instructions. This assumes that you already have Alpha 1 installed. You will be replacing about 4 main files, and the building and engine files.

Alpha 2 files : (Deleted)

If you don't already have it, you need to install the Alpha 1 first. (Deleted) (no need for any patches since they are in the Alpha 2 files)

--------------------------------------------------

Alpha 2 maps:

Birth of a Nation - Upper Canada 1836

<File deleted due to obsolescence>
-Almost finished. Still getting tested and tweaked. A bit of a challenge so far. I have to paint the map, and finish making the river junctions not look so bad. Otherwise the game goals which are:

Start as chair of one railroad, then take over chair of another railroad, and buy your first RR. Connect across the map, and be the only RR in business. Build a nation!

------------

Vorsprung dur Technik - Germany 2004 <File deleted due to obsolescence>

- Campaign 11, by Grandma Ruth. Meet specific haulage goals.

Thanks Hawk.

Here's a copy of Grandma Ruth's German map, Vorsprung durch Technik. It's been converted to work will Alpha 2. I've also made a few minor changes: Lowered the level of pharma plants at Jena because they kept blocking access to the town. Added 3 gold mines in the mountains to where Romania is just off the map. Placed all the gov't and military buildings where they would have spawned. Cnanged all the recycling plants to reclamation facilities.

Ruth, a few other suggestions I would like to offer are to reduce the number of locomotives available. I'd say half of what's there should accommodate everything, and only a few are actually used in the game.

Eventually this map will be Campaign 11. Oh, and PS...stay out of the campaign room for now unless you are looking to exit the game real fast. :) Just for now, until I get the appropriate files zipped up.

It would seem that I forgot two very important files in the zip.

I'm uploading a new zip file with the missing files. Hawk, could you replace the link please...and sorry about that.

I didn't extract the files properly. Now I have and it's saying can't find Dorchester. but England's just declared and I'm not really concentrating!!!

Edit - Oh I see, you've already identified the problem. !*th_up*! !*th_up*!
There's an Aussie on now trying to justify the way they're playing - I'm afraid I'm going to have to give up on the Trainmaster till after the Test.

No it's UK speak for what the h*ll do they think they're playing at  They have put Australia in to bat and just let them get 80 runs for nothing??? What was that all about? $***^%$$ idiots!
I wonder why Canada never took up cricket? I think it's the only Commonwealth country that doesn't play. Mind you, you're not missing much with the way these wassocks are carrying on. !*th_dwn*! !*th_dwn*!
Well, I can get back to Trainmaster now till tomorrow.

Thanks Hawk.

I just learned that a 3dp file is missing for the Dorchester in the loco file. Not an issue if the Dorchester doesn't get used in a map, or it can be installed manually from before.

Rather than pester you with another file upload, I'll fix it an it will be in the whole pack when I get them done.

You could also attach the 3dp in zip form to a post. ;-)

It's no bother if you want to update the Alpha2 zip. That's easy to do at this stage since it's not assigned a download counter number or added to a web page.

I'm in the middle of trying to put together a scenario, so I can just as easily post the zip file for the Dorchester, wich is all that is needed. I want to wait and see if anything else is missing first. Not sure why that file got dropped out of the pk4 file.

With luck, I should have a trial version of the first campaign scenario ready very soon.

I've done a bit of research and have reduced the locomotives to the ones that are actually used in the area of the map in modern times. I won't upload a new version until it's been tested a bit more. I hope someone else will test-play this map because you tend to get bogged down into one style of playing (at least I do) and I'd like someone else's opinions before I say it's final!
But the cricket's on so no more for a bit! Australia 90 - 2 now so I forgive the poor decision to declare yesterday.
Edit: BTW, thanks for Hartmut Mehdorn! Is here any way to fix the company name/logo the way you can fix the player?
