Railroad Heralds

Just thought some of y'all might be interested in this.

I've just added a file to the Logos section of this site. The zip consists of 329 railroad heralds in sizes ranging from 75 X 75 to 800 X 800, all in bmp format for the best possible resolution.

Now I understand what you meant in that one message about being so busy, nice looking site Hawk. :-) Makes me wish I had a PC that could handle Railworks. Actually I've been wanting to get that game for a while, but just not in the position to do it right now.

Actually, the link in the first post in this thread takes you to a section in this site, although the Railworks site is mine also.

I have Railworks but it's not installed. Thankfully I didn't have to pay for it (the registration code was given to me by the CEO of RS.com).
I also have the original release, which was called Railsimulator (also given to me by the CEO), but I only use it to export my 3D Models to. I never run it. I don't much care for it and I can't stand that Steam client. Had nothing but problems with it. Might have been my security settings on this rig but I wasn't about to change them for Railworks. Just wasn't worth it to me.

Give me Railroad Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon any day.

I also have another web site devoted to my family genealogy, and I do web site work for about 12 other sites, as well as hosting all of those sites.

Ever play locomotion? That game wasn't too bad, especially with some of the player created stuff for it. The difference between that and this is, you could build working spurs, and setups for coal mines were great as well. You could set your track to run a loop through the loading bin then set switches and about four different tracks. Telling each train, which track to take, then they would wait for a clear signal and hit the loading bin when the train before pulled out. It was a trick to learn at first, but once you got it figured out (the signal setup), it was pretty cool to watch it in action. This would also eventually cause the mines to upgrade producing more coal to handle the # of trains. When I last played that game, I had 10 trains, just running to the mines alone. Too bad Chris Sawyer didn't keep up with that series, I think he would have had a gold mine on his hands with all the train games nuts out there ;-) .

I agree with you, the one thing both Railworks and MSTS misses, is the business aspect of the game. Must have something to do with the fact that my Dad was in the LTL trucking business for over 50yrs. Having actually worked at the last place he worked for a while, I have a pretty fair understanding of freight movements, being I was a dockhand. I like running the trains and watching them, but without the opportunity by either success or failure of how you manage your 'business' railroad company, there really isn't too much of an interesting aspect to it. I used to have MSTS and it took a ton of drive space just itself alone, not counting for the add-ons. after a while, the scenery in the territories without lots of other AI trains to see or yard switching exercises,. I got bored with it after a few months.

I played Locomotion when it fist came out (you are talking about the Chris Sawyer game, right?).
I never really got into it very much.

I got MSTS the first weekend of it's release back in '01 but even with it I never ran any routes, other than beta testing routes for friends. I was mainly interested in developing for it too and created a bunch of models for it for other folks.
I was even involved in creating a route for it, but it never was completed.
