I've tried your suggestion with Argentina Opens Up and it worked!
After that, I created a new (second) empty GMP and it gave the weird stripes again.

I've packed the old, new and Argentina Opens Up GMP's (old=706x706, new=1024x1024) ánd the latest BMP I used.
http://download1076.mediafire.com/20a3h ... r9/NNL.rar

Also tried it on Germany and several other maps: stripes again, seems like Argentina Opens Up was just a lucky one.

There must be someting wrong with your original NNL.gmp map. I just tried it with a new 1024 x 1024 map (in 1.06, by the way, what version are you working in?) and your original NNL.bmp and it worked fine (see attachment 1). I also did it with your new NNLCUT1024SQHQ.bmp and it also worked fine (see attachment 2). I tried putting your NNLCUT1024SQHQ.bmp over your NNLCUT1024SQHQlarge.gmp and got exactly what you got, which leads me to believe your NNLCUT1024SQHQlarge.gmp has been corrupted somehow.

I'm using 1.06 too. I think it's not a map that's corrupted but my entire Editor. Because each new scratch map I create gives the same result with different BMP's. All striped and just a part of the BMP is copied on to the map.
I've used 2 BMP2GMP programs downloaded from different locations and both gave the same result. I'm going to download the seperate Editor and see if that helps. I'll report back here to tell if that worked.

Thanks for uploading the GMP's by the way, much appreciated. :-)
They do work on my computer.

Edit:
Noticed you can only download the Map Builder seperately... :-(

Where are you getting the programs from? It sounds like you're not using an original installation disk. Could be that the downloaded Editor program part has a bug? Is it a separate program? In the "Official" version, it's built into the RT3.EXE program.

If, by chance, you're using the Steam version of RT3, you might want to consider buying a cd version, which you can find at JustTrains for $8.15 USD.
The Steam version is rather proprietary and might cause problems if trying to use it for anything more than running it 'as-is'; just playing the game.

In fact, I AM using the original disc(s). I bought the game as soon as it came into stores. And I do have the Map Editor 'inside' the game program. It's not a Steam version or downloaded in any other way.
I just thought I saw a downloadable Map EDITOR on the site but instead, it was the Map BUILDER.

I downloaded the BMP2GMP program twice, from Hawk & Badger and Molse's Downloadzentrum (http://dl.railroadtycoons.de/index.htm). I used used both of them to 'paint' the map but they gave the same results. Which leads me to think there is some sort of bug in my Map Editor.

The strange thing is though, when I opened the maps Wolverine posted here they were just fine. :-?
I would really like to have a solution to this so I can create maps using images on my own, instead of asking other people to do it for me... :-)
I am looking all over the place for a solution but so far I haven't found anything yet.

Well, it was a thought. That is strange that even using XP you can't get it to work.

Which I could offer more help but Wolvy is probably one of the best to advise here. Shame PJay doesn't come around anymore.

What do you mean by that, compatibility mode? I haven't tried that yet.
I'm running Windows 7 64-Bit. Any known issues?

P.S.
Thank you very much Wolverine for your help so far and uploading the maps. ;)
At least I can edit the map now, it's just a little bit large... But my machine can handle it so far.
I forgot what a major hassle it is completely writing a scenario.

Sorry!

I glanced at the first post in this thread, not noticing that it was OilCan that said he was running XP.

Do you have RT3 installed in the default location: in the Program Files folder? If so, that may be the problem. Microsoft decided that anything installed in the Program Files folder should not be allowed to be edited, for your own protection don'cha know.

It seems they decided to move some files of every install to some other ghost directory, or some such silliness. I really don't know all of the facts. I've just seen a lot of different mentions about it.

LOL That happens.

And yes, I did know that about Program Files. ;-)
I never install my programs in the default location, always on a different partition (Most of the time D:\Program Files (x86)\ or D:\Program Files\. Those folders have been created by the first programs that have been installed there, not by Windows. So the ghost map shouldn't be my problem.
Good thinking though, I think most people would have never thought of that. :-)

Haha!
I sure do make it look like that, don't I? :-P
But I'm really not, maybe it's just a 'mysterious unsolvable' problem.

Are you using any image editing software along the way somehow?

Yes, I am. These are my 'procedures':

- Take SS in Google Earth.
- Paste in Paint to make it a square image, save as PNG.
- Open in Gimp to make it exactly 1024x1024, then save as BMP 24 bbp.
- Open in BMP2GMP.

I still don't know how this would affect it, since I send Wolverine an image I made this way aswell. :-?
Although I suppose saving it as a PNG first, might cause some trouble later on. Maybe it has different result on different PC's...

The BMP that you posted worked just fine. I layed it over several different maps (gmp files) with no problems. Any BMP I try to lay over your NNLCUT1024SQHQ.GMP results in the problem you describe. Try uninstalling and reinstalling RT3. Then make a test map (of any dimensions, smaller will zip to a smaller file) in the Editor and save it (test.gmp). If you cant get a bmp to overlay it with BMB2GMP, then zip it (test.gmp) up and post it as an attachment to your reply so it's easy to download (that last one you did was a PITA having to go to a remote server), or PM it to me.
