Oh No! What fresh hell is this?

Unread postby Grandma Ruth » Mon Apr 30, 2007 6:47 pm

Finally, my computer problems are nearly solved (fingers crossed). I've had a new hard drive put in, I've re-installed everything, I think I've fixed all the numerous video problems. I've re-installed RT3, I've downloaded Coast to Coast and the 1.05 patch, and when I try to download 1,06, I get this:
"Warning: fopen(clicks.txt) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/hawkdawg/hawkdawg-www/ccount/click.php on line 70
Can't write to log file! Please Change the file permissions (CHMOD to 666 on UNIX machines!)"
Somebody save my sanity!!! What do I do now?????

Well 'CHMOD to 666' is to do with Hawk's security settings, nothing to do with your computer. I would wait for Hawk to check his settings, I think there's something going on at the moment and you just happened to try to download at the same time. Are any downloads working?

Thanks, Al - glad this isn't yet another glitch in my computer. I just downloaded C to C and 1.05 from Hawk's site OK, it's only the 1.06, I think. I'll wait and see how it goes tomorrow. It's half past midnight here anyway, I really ought to get to bed!

It's 1am for me, same country as you.

Hawk it's probably something to do with the ftp, if that's where the 1.06 patch download is held?

The public release of 1.06 beta isn't in the FTP area. It's in the Extras section and I found the problem. Somehow the CHMOD for a couple of the files necessary for the download counter to function got changed. It's fixed now. Not sure how that happened though.

Edit 1: Turns out the hosting service moved my domain to another server due to the high volume of traffic my site gets. During the move some of the settings (passwords, CHMOD, etc.) didn't get transferred right. It's all fixed now. :D

Thanks, boys! I'm finally up and running - now I'm going to do a restore thing so when the whole setup crashes I can get back to this point.

Grandma,

It's a good idea to set a "restore" point manually every couple of months or so. That way if you do have a crash, you can recover to a fairly recent system. By default, I think restore points are only automatically set when you install new software or make some major change to the system.
