Having the "Wrong Disk Inserted" problem?
Try this work-around.


This should work, but only if you have updated your install to Version 1.05 .
If you do not have the 1.05 patch, this will not work.
Click here to download the 1.05 patch if you need it.
It’s also advisable to install the Coast to Coast Expansion prior to installing the 1.05 patch.
The Coast to Coast Expansion will update your install to version 1.04 and can be downloaded here (119 MB)
Follow these instructions carefully.


  1. Download this file. RT3.zip
  2. Unzip it to a temporary folder.
    Note:
    DO NOT unzip it to your Railroad Tycoon 3 folder.
    DO NOT overwrite your existing rt3.exe file.

  3. Rename your existing rt3.exe file (Found in the main folder of your Railroad Tycoon 3 installation).

    (Suggestion: rt3_org.exe)

  4. Place the RT3.exe file you just unzipped into the same folder as the file you just renamed.

    IE: The Railroad Tycoon 3 installation folder

You should now be able to run the game without having to use the CD.

Note:
DO NOT place the disk in the drive.

If this does not work, you can always delete this new RT3.exe and change your renamed file back to the original name (rt3.exe).
