An incompatible version of RT3

I tried installing the 1.06 patch and get a message that says the 1.06 patch won't work with that version. I bought mine from www.sold-out.co.uk. Had the files get corrupted on my other one and ordered a new one. Is there any chance of a fix that may work. I can't DL some map files I played before without it and there is a Southeastern map version on here that is much better than the original in the game, has more cities.

Have you patched it with the Coast to Coast Expansion (1.04) and the 1.05 patch before trying to patch it to 1.06?

Remember that it's best to have separate installs of 1.05 and 1.06. 1.06 maps won't play in 1.05 and while 1.05 maps will play in 1.06, they may not play as intended due to the changes made in 1.06.

I did the Coast to Coast and the 1.05 first, the one I purchased before was off of the same website so not sure of reason for the issue. I had no problems at all DL the 1.06 patch on that one.

Okay, not exactly sure what I did or why it worked, but I did some playing around with the 1.05 patch, thinking maybe it did not install correctly or some such thing. When I tried the 1.06 again it worked this time.

This may be a useful tip. I had this same problem, briefly, in the course of duplicating installs so as to have TM, 106 and 105 all nicely separate. As I was looking through multiple windows and scratching my head, I noticed a visual clue while eyeballing around. The RT3 executables have a unique size/date signature.

I (re-) installed what would be my 105 "classic" folder from a jewel case disk, (the header even says "RRT3 Jewel Case"); but they stripped out the Map builder and intro video (to gain some space I suppose). This isn't a "sold-out" brand , but a genuine 2006 copr. take-2 . It has CTC and the 105 patch but I momentarily had forgotten that both have to be hand installed after the disk finishes *!*!*! .

The RT3.exe is 6,400KB and has a 1/5/2006 date on it.
CTC changed this to 4,124KB dated 8/6/2004.
105 kept the 4,124KB size and re-dated to 9/8/2004.

106 keeps the 4,124KB size and re-dated to the day it was installed by me.
If you have TM, that exe is only 2,276KB and has a date of 2/13/2010.

A quick glance kept me on track when confusion threatened to set in. Threats won't bother you if you're ready for them !*th_up*! . (BTW, I suspect some of your dates may vary).

Weird, my RT3.exe files are all 2276, the 1.04 was 4124.

Wow. That is weird. Where's Rod Serling when we need him. 4124? Wow. I wonder how many versions there actually were? So much for that tip.

First of all, have you read the topic about multiple installs?

viewtopic.php?f=82&t=2363

Did you install RT3 from a cd or from 2 cd's, or do you have a Steam version?

Did you patch your original install with the Coast to Coast Expansion, which would be V-1.04, then patch it to 1.05?

What Operating System do you run?

Where did you install RT3 on your hard drive?
