Re: Hell on Wheels
Just so you know, I bought a house and it becomes mine on Thursday so for the next few weeks I am going to be very busy with that. But I did manage to catch the premiere episode of the new AMC series Hell on Wheels. It's set in 1865 and it is about the building of the trans-continental railroad. Se...

Oil firing steam locomotives
1. When was the first time it is shown up? 2. Does it still needs belpaire firebox? 3. Traditional oil firing steam locomotives burn 'heavy' fuel oil. (No. 5 or No. 6 i think). the 21st century modern steam projects while themselves try (so hard) to evade petroleum dependency. many of them actually ...

Re: Train Fever - Railway Game in Development
The game might be at the developing stages. There might be more cargo in the actual release. There are many 'questions' overdue from Sid Meier's Railroads I fear that this project may not reach retailing stage :( But once they do. Let's hope it worths a long overdue. Wishlists - (Japanese-style) Sel...

And what contributes to its superior 'stability' over the 4-4-4, 4-6-4 and 4-10-4 ? meow.

Cash (or Crash) Around the Valley
I've downloaded a North American scenario called "Cash around the valley". which player Plays the role of the Union Pacific (?) to lay its portion of 1st Transcontinental Railroad. meet up with Central Pacific at Promontory. Utah (called C.P. Raillink)... unfortunately the game crashes JUS...

A project of highspeed zero-emission Modern steam proposed.
And now it becomes more serious! University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment and the Sustainable Rail International teams up to reintroduce the Highspeed zero-emission modern steams for passenger services. The team proposed that the locomotive will burn 'torrefied biomass' AKA. biocoal, t...

Re: 4-8-4 Northern
^ yes it's just a game but I need real world statistics so I could import some locomotives ignored by the developers into the game. (such as Garrats, also Mallets shown up too late! earliest Mallets in the North America appeared in 1907), and calculate its in-game statistics to match it. so Hawk. 1....

Re: 4-8-4 Northern
Here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4-8-4#Demise Demise The big wheeled 4-8-4 was at home on heavy passenger trains and quite capable of speeds over 100 miles per hour (160 kilometres per hour), but freight was the bread and butter of the railroads and in that service the Northern had limitations. Th...

4-8-4 Northern
I've played every Age of Steam series scenario and the creator, W. Sherrick wrote that the 4-8-4 Northern steam locomotive is dual-purpose road engine-- capable of highspeed passenger services and heavy fast freights. the Wiki said otherwise, that the 4-8-4 is not a good freight choices (for medium-...

Re: Cow Catcher
John bull (Stephenson's Planet type locmotive) was the first locomotive to have cowcatchers and leading trucks. because roaming cows can derail the train. I don't understand if, by 1830s british farmers still let their cows roam free and then why this feature rarely been installed in any british loc...

Cow Catcher
Cow Catcher is a wedge-shaped plow fixed on each end of a train JUST below the coupler (usually Locomotives or self propelled railcars). It can be either constructed by making the whole framework out of Iron/Steel bars, or 1-piece pressed steel sheet. This feature is common in American Railroad syst...

Re: New Railroad Game...Overdue
Railroad Pioneer is indeed full of bugs. The last "Railroad Pioneer" (player must cross Donner pass and reach San Francisco) mission is impossible to beat because of it. Also the history details of locomotive development is anachronism and the transcontinental railroad construction is pure...

Re: New Railroad Game...Overdue
Railroad games are exactly hard to design properly. one of a few best ones are 1. RRT3: The only RR business sim that train consists can be either adjusted automatically or manually. 2. RRT2 3. Transport Giant. This is one of the best RR business sim game. This one is very ancient but it is the only...

Re: East Coast passenger rail traffic since Sandy Storm
^ They say that AMTRAK runs passenger services poorly partly due to that AMTRAK leases tracks from soneone else (except ACELA). if... since 60s Class 1 RR realized that freight service is the only revenue while passenger services don't seems to be feasible due to the two reasons - Private motoring -...

Re: East Coast passenger rail traffic since Sandy Storm
^ Modernine did say that the increased passenger train riderships during Thanksgiving is due to the quick restoration operations of RR companies. (I don't know whether did any airport got fixed up before the Thanksgiving?). I don't think this trend will last for long. once airports got fixed up. AMT...

East Coast passenger rail traffic since Sandy Storm
1. how many percentages of the increased AMTRAK ridership it is? Sandy left many eastcoast airports ruined in her wake and Americans switched from plane to train. I've heard from Thai news that in this THANKSGIVING day. AMTRAK did replace airplanes when the latter was not readily available at the ea...

http://www.stanleysteamers.com/DLM/loco-rack.jpg Vertical Boiler steamer. This one is built by SLM (now DLM) and it is a retrofit of an original self. it is a coal fired steamer built with so many 'modern steam' techniques . Patched RT3 rejects custom maps!
I've re-installed RT3 and patched it with C2C and 1.05, also 1.06 if i remember correctly.
after that i've installed new locomotives and it did shown up.
the same doesn't go for new maps. I'm sure I installed maps correctly, does the same happens to you? meow
