Re: Australian steam locos

Those are great ideas! You know, if we could coordinate the efforts of the big guys like Ned and Arop with your ideas, I bet we could get a really great looking streamliner based on that Henty engine. It reminded me of a lot of engines from the States, like the Hiawatha and the C&O's Chessie Hud...

Re: SUGGESTION: Railroad Map Archive

I wanted to help but first I got errors when uploading, and more errors when posting to say that! I doubt this will even go through. Really mad right now, I'll explain later.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. I think it would be really helpful, and I could contribute a few local ones. !#2bits#!

Re: Railroads are not rollercoasters!!!

All those reasons are exactly why I would like to play multiplayer! I yearn for a challenge, so often I actuallly boost up the AI's aggression and add the maximum, or base the number off the map size. I added 14 AI's to Aurelia to simulate a real country with a massive need for railroads. I'm gong t...

Re: Railroads are not rollercoasters!!!

Ha! That's EXACTLY what I have to go through when I merge. At least it's what happened ever since I adopter your idea of spur-track maintenance. AI tends to have 2-5 trains going between two cities sometimes, and that is just uncalled for. Whenever I takeover a young AI, I always end up scrapping at...

Re: Highly unusual locomotives

Ahh yes, the triplex class. I forgot all bout them. They are in fact articulated tender engines with cylinder driven wheels underneath the tender frame. Only very few were built, not sure exactly how many. They were not the only type of this class, either. The Virginian also experimented with the &q...

Railroads are not rollercoasters!!!

Ugh... Not another one. Here I am, trying to build, run, and operate my railroad as realistically and efficiently as possible. Playing in my favorite era on Pacific Coastal, with one AI enabled, I start in the Sacramento Valley with two Class J' s at the moment and some very level track. Then I noti...

Re: North american Diesel locomotive designs

1. Weights. Big, solid, concrete safety weights. Today, at least. 2. Most have one large, 12+ cylinder medium speed engine. 3. Don't have much on these, but I do know KM never even settled on a production unit. 4. Not necessarily. Most engines today are today a mix of cab and hood units, at least ae...

Re: North american Diesel locomotive designs

Here's some information that may explain NA's unique choice of design for it's diesels. 1. Like I said, money matters. The philosophy to AMerican railroading has long been "Build it cheap, improve with the revenue." 2. Yes, locomotives in a consist are often facing opposite directions. I l...

Re: North american Diesel locomotive designs

Well, have you looked at any diesels designed in the 60's for Eastern USA roads? Crews are very used to the low visibility rates afforded by long-hood forward engines, so it's no big deal. I think the main reason is to cut costs. Having double control stands, double cabs, double-everything is just t...

Very sad to hear another classic fallen flag, but I think an RT3 map is the perfect way to honor it's passing. Thanks!
