This scenario looked very interesting and challenging (playing on Hard) with six railroads on the map at the beginning. Then when the ruling came down that greatly increased the price of buying businesses, I though it would be extremely challenging! !*00*! I was glad I had bought several restaurants...

I finished a game of this a couple weeks ago and had no trouble earning gold playing on hard. I hit the gold targets in March 1906 so I played only 21 of the 35 years permitted. This is a game of build and buy. There are plenty of profitable express and freight cargos. It takes a few years to build ...

I'm voting for a new game for several reasons. By the time another year or two go by, we should have more advances in graphics that can produce a better looking game. The next generation game needs to be more multi-player friendly. And the list of possible game improvements is long enough to be chal...

Pre-built AI railroads
Some of you have made scenarios which have pre-built railroads in them. I just finished playing Age of Steam II - Illinois Central, which has about 6 railroads on the map when the game begins. What techniques have you experts learned in setting up these railroads? Do you build them in the editor at ...

Navigation of rivers
JayEff does make a good point. The difficulty is that there are differing levels of navigation. Should rivers be included only if they are navigable by a steamboat? What about flat-bottomed canal boats, barges, or a large freight canoe? Many rivers in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota were used to f...

ChrisW, In the early days of railroading before the invention of the Westinghouse airbrake (patented in 1872; made mandatory in 1893) brakemen were needed to apply, and then release, the brakes on each car in the train. The head end brakeman rode in the engine; the rear brakeman rode in the caboose....

Are good-looking rivers important?
I am currently spending hours on the rivers of my next game. They are laid in their proper locations, and now I am smoothing their slopes before finally making each one the proper width. I know that Mobius stated the rivers in his Great Northern game took him about 60 hours. I expect I spent nearly ...

I always add a caboose to my freight trains, but not to my passenger trains. I assumed the caboose added significantly to the engines reliability, but I've never tested that. I would like it if the game automatically added a caboose at the end of the train instead of taking one of the 8 car slots av...

Likely you have been buying stock in your own railroad. If not, do so. Get as much as possible early in the game when it is cheapest. But beware of buying too much on margin in a boom economy, as an economic crash will drop your stock value and could result in a margin call, which will devastate you...

I don't know if it is possible to crop an existing map. But when creating a map from scratch with the map maker that comes with RRT3, it is worth your time to remake the original map many times if necessary to get the area you want to include as exactly as possible. I wish my Building to Buffalo map...

Thanks for posting, JayEff. I appreciate the compliment. 1. Pillaging is too easy. I finished January 1830 with $2 million PNW by starting companies, destroying them, then short selling them. You could write some events, or check off some special conditions that will put a limit on it. I'm sure you ...

Version 2 has been sent to Hawk
Tycoons, I have sent version 2 of Building to Buffalo to Hawk. Thanks to all who posted about their experiences with the game so I could correct mistakes and improve what I hope is the final version. Game play changes from version 1 1. The Silver Medal requirement has been raised to $30 million in C...

this map screams to be used more with the wealth of small cities and history on it. Yes, indeed. I have played 20 games in my testing process and haven't tried all the routes yet. I'm not an artist so the map is no prize-winner in its coloring, but I think the map's geography is great. The valleys ...

Wolverine, it is obvious you are an expert player. Gold in Sept. 1844 is awesome! Glad your 2nd download came through ok. Jay Gould and Daniel Drew would be pleased at your clever robber baron tactics! I agree the CBV target is a little too easy, but someone else thought the PNW target for...

Railroaders, I just found an excellent 25 page article titled Theodore Judah and the Blazing of the First Transcontinental Railroad Over the Sierra Nevadas on the web. Here is the link (hope this works): http://web.umr.edu/~rogersda/american&military_history/THEODORE%20JUDAH%20AND%20THE%20BLAZIN...

Wolverine, you are not doomed at all. Go for it! !*th_up*! I've found it easiest to get gold when I ignore the options that come up. The options are there for variety but are not meant to be the meat of the game. I thought few people would try to build from Baltimore, Wilmington or New Haven unless ...

Thanks for your kind words, wsherrick. !$th_u$! As you are the 2nd person to mention rice loads not being counted accurately, something needs to be fixed. To which coastal port(s) did you haul your rice? Each potential port city has its own event so it could be that some events are ok but one or mor...
