Re: Rolling Stock skinning ideas

Just a quick update to let the world know that I am still alive... and paying attention once more to the endeavors I began, thanks to the injection of new interest by Gumboots. I will be providing my "roadmap" of intended rolling stock overhauls to him, showing where I was going to be goin...

Re: Industry Demand Zone

Over what kind of time frame were these tested? Is this just the initial map seeding? I thought that demand would propagate over time, so that even if your dairy is 50 cells away at the start, such that no cargo is moving at game start, over time the demand will radiate outward until the cargo final...

I'm one of the other modders, but I haven't done any such work in a long while. I've been too busy with other hobbies, especially working on my "real" railroad, the N-scale WP&P. Bombardiere is another modder, the guy that taught me most of what I know, but his story is much the same. ...

Your subject line certainly got my attention! I'm a-feared I don't understand it, however. Just goes to show there is such a thing as a dumb geek! What part of Scandinavia are you from? One of the first friends I met here goes by the name Bombardiere, and hails from Finland. I love Norse things, the...

Your post made me curious, and so I went Google-hunting. I was surprised to find some apparent veracity to this, as documented on sites like this: http://prophecyarchive.com/ray/barr-family.com/godsword/giants.htm (scroll down to about halfway down for the best info) I'm not sure what to make of it ...

Re: Hard Drive Brands

I'll back up Hawk's play. I've never had any drive other than a Western Digital in my home computer, going back to when I first bought my PC in 1995. I can't say I've never had a failure, as I have an 80-Gb IDE drive that no longer works, but it didn't exactly fail while in service. I didn't have to...

Re: Engine Skin Problem

Glad you figured this out! Unfortunately the TrainSkin tool that comes with Coast-to-Coast always produces this nighttime glow phenomenon, because it just resizes the original TGA for the reduced-resolution skins without cleaning up the alpha channel. That's why I stopped using it altogether when I ...

Never disturb a sleeping cat! Doesn't this translate to "never disturb a cat"? **!!!** As for the ghost cat stories, must have been a feline blessed with 9.5 lives. Got buried when the statutory 9.0 lives were up, which was slightly too soon. If anyone wants a little bit of light-heartedn...

Re: A faint echo of a scenario idea

But the raw goods from the north will "walk" south on their own, eventually finding their way to the factories. Cargo doesn't respect territory access, so one could still cheat in that way. Best to tally the loads for raw materials delivered from the north, I maintain. EDIT: I just saw a p...

Re: A faint echo of a scenario idea

I would suggest that the river be broad, painted with the lake/ocean tools rather than the one-square wide river tools, thus forcing the player to expend tons of money to bridge across it. Use a Territory Variable to record the North's level of happiness, sort of a diplomatic scale. Then you can hav...

I just don't like the look of a freight train without a caboose. I treat it as if cabeese are a federal regulation, at least up until about 1980.

Re: Custom Consist

It seemed to me that when I was running coal trains with 5 coal, 2 any, caboose, and minimum set to 3 loads, I would very often be getting 2 any plus 1 coal on my train. What you are saying would mean that I should expect such a train to remain loading at the station until it was 3 coal plus the 2 a...

Re: Custom Consist

I did some experimenting and found that the custom consist works even better than I had thought. If you set a consist as "1 Iron 2 Coal and 5 anycargo and set the minimum to 3 it will not leave until the first 3 specified loads are filled. So the train will wait, filling the other cars when it...

Re: Custom Consist

Stoker and Wolvy seem to be both talking about setting Z (the min. number of total loads) equal to the number of cars in the consist, which will indeed force the train loadout to be as designated. It's when you get into setting Z to a number lower than the total number of cars that you lose control....

Re: Custom Consist

But Ruth's point is that a train carrying multiple commodities cannot specify X loads of coal plus Y loads of iron; it's just the total number of loads that gets checked. In other words, Z loads of any combination of coal and iron. So, if you want to ensure that X of coal is getting delivered, then ...

Re: A belated intruduction

Welcome to the forum! One of the first friends I met here was another Finnish player, who hasn't been active much lately but might show up sometime: Bombardiere. He mentored me in the ways of modding RRT3, to bend it to one's will, and together we created quite a lot of custom content. However, his ...
