Hotel$
I have had scenarios where $100k hotels provide an annual return of $175k. And they generate passenger traffic. So I very often use them.

about dates and Economic State
I prefer to control the range of the economic state rather than set it precisely; otherwise the game is too predictable. And it might be easier to break up your events into steps. 1. The first event has dates as conditions and sets a game variable to the economic state that is about what you want. 2...

Spiral Tunnels on CBC Daybreak
I just heard on CBC that they will be talking about the spiral tunnels today on Daybreak. I have to get to work so I can't post the link yet. But if you are not in Canada, you can poke around at www.cbc.ca in the radio part. You should be able to get the broadcast stream, or later get the recording....

Re: Africa & Middle East - Goals?
It would be best to close out the launched game and then load the map in editor mode. And once you get into that you might as well get into a full blown re-edit because there may be other things that need changing. - On the welcome page, press Extras - On the page that loads, press Editor - Press Lo...

Re: Newbie Questions
In 1.06 if you want to use hotels, restaurants, taverns and post offices, on earler scenarios, you have to go into editor mode, and x the corresponding boxes in the industries window.

Re: Gulf, Mobile and Ohio
Having multiple players then deleting them to start the companies would work too. Or you could use a cheat to give your player oodles of cash to buy up stock and take over. In the latter case though, I expect the game will start with wonky stock prices. This problem does not exist in NE Corridor, so...

Re: Player Characters
Heorhiy (George) Kirpa was a modern era railway manager who cleaned up corruption in the Ukrainian national railway by firing most of the mid-level managers, Ukrzaliznytsia . By restoring the railway to profitability he was able to raise the pay of the ordinary workers. Unfortunately he did himself...

EPH, it was all done with one player. Lars would have started one company, built it, resigned, and started the next one until they were all there.

For me, it lasted until I switched back to my other glasses. I have a pair that is one diopter off 20/20. It is perfect for things like computers and cooking, and is only one diopter off for driving. When I want to read I simply take my glasses off and do fine.I could have gotten used to the progres...

Re: Making cargoes available early to build demand
Actually, the recycling industry is one of the oldest known to us. Thanks for the reminder. I should remember this from my agriculture degree program. When we toured various facilities I noted that where possible, nothing was wasted. For instance the pulp from making apple juice can be sold for cat...

Re: Express trains
The best time to have express trains is when: - you have a lot of express cargo; - you have an express-related mission or game goal like express speed or troop hauling - you have a range of locos available such that it would benefit you to divide cargoes. You might want to have express-only Looks-sh...

It is good the way it is
The industries may appear at a particular date, but historically they did not suddenly appear in high demand. They more more likely came in slowly, as they do in the game. Oil appears in 1860, but in Alberta, one of the world's great oil buckets, the first significant oil strike (resulting in more t...

Re: Another Question Regarding Ports
I just don't know how a warehouse prioritizes allocating an available resource that it demands in more than one way. It might always take the first coal to produce a steel, rather than splitting each coal three ways, using a third to produce a third of steel and just consuming the other two-thirds....

There are supposed to be some natural disasters south of Lake Baikal. But they do not seem to trigger, because it looks like there is a bit of a territory mixup. There are two hidden territories there, but the event was written for the Baikal Block, which is no longer there. It never triggered on me...

Re: Another Question Regarding Ports
Be sure than when you make your recipe that the total value of the demanded side is less than the total value of the supplied side. The Port / Warehouse has to pay for its raw materials, and gets paid for what it supplies, and it must earn a profit or it will not make the swap. Three steel for one a...

Re: Language file
I have been having fun with the rt3.lng file for years. You can rename exhibits, team names, children's transgressions, and more. You can rename your buildings and cargoes. Change the secondary headlines. Change the language entirely. It is a fun and easy way to customize a scenario. Really, if peo...

Re: Hello from the Northeast Corridor!
I tried the Capitalism 2 Demo.I didn't like it, and stuck with Capitalism Plus. I like the way the companies and players work, because they can be serious takeover threats. AI players in RT never take control of companies. But CapPlus can get tedious. I will develop a business model and clone it to ...

Re: Chicago to New York
Cleveland is a better place for the auto and tire factories. You can bring steel from Pittsburgh and the city to the south, and you can bring rubber from Chicago, St. Louis, the eastern Great Lakes, and New York. And clearly Cleveland's central location is ideal for hauling away the autos. The St Lo...
