Re: Civ V
I played the Tropico demo when it first came out and found it to be interesting, but that was all. Tropico isn't a 3x game as far as I'm concerned (explore, expand, exploit or whatever the x's stand for). It seemed to be something else - a Sim City game with a story - but I think that once I played ...

Civ V
Given what happened to RT4 (SMR), I have been awaiting Civ V with great trepidation. However, the attached link to Gamespot's preview is starting to alleviate some of that anxiety. If only they would do to RT3 what they seem to be doing to Civ IV. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/civilizationv/ne...

Re: Express D'Orient
Brunom: Actually, you can use AI track, but you just need to send a short spur line off of it to build your own station. I found starting in Turkey to be quite difficult and never got a medal, although I did enjoy the challenges that I faced there. EPH was working on a fix for the Turkey start, but ...

Re: Bush vs Gore
Just finished v1.3 and I can't tell you if it is more difficult, as I changed my strategy and did better than the first time. This time, instead of going over the Alleghenies from Philly, I went down the coast to Jacksonville, cut over to Atlanta from Savanah, proceeded to Mobile to head off an AI R...

The Pacific Coast 1870
This is another fine map and scenario by AROP, with very buildable mountainous terrain. I enjoyed being able to build along the relatively level Pacific Coast all the way from San Diego to a bit beyond Seattle. It was also nice to see profitable furnaces. I have had problems with them in the past, b...

Re: Bush vs Gore
I played a version dated March 23. The map was very buildable, with lots of cargo. I chose to start in New York City and build a Pa RR route to Cleveland and Detroit. Other RR's were making lots of money, while I just kept chugging along with my $100k steam engines. But, eventually, I updated to ugl...

Re: Express D'Orient
I never tried a Stirling. Their hill ability scares me, but their passenger appeal is, well, appealing. Unlike EPH, I use Dukes, as they have better acceleration than the Consolidations, with only a small loss of power. But, for a long run or climbing the hills out of Turkey (OE start), then I would...

Re: Express D'Orient
Transport Tycoon had a feature that sent engines searching for service places when services were needed. That would be nice for scenarios like this one, although it would be better if it was triggered only when an engine was in a station with no cargo. Gold was achieved in 1911. Overall,I rate this ...

Re: Express D'Orient
Have patience, Ray. I am on my 4th attempt, although I think that this one will be a winner. My thirrd attempt died when I prematurally bought the steel mill, only to find that it was a fluke that coal had started to arrive at it, and since it was losing money, and I was not in a good position to bu...

Re: Express D'Orient
I gave blood and then realized that my cause was hopeless, so I restarted with 3 dairies (2 initial and 1 expensive one later) and trying to make the trains work better. The 3 dairies should keep some cash rolling. Last try, what killed me, was that I had too many bonds when I gave blood, so I could...

Re: Express D'Orient
I did not go for the tenders as my services were already built by the time the option came along. But, if I were to wait longer before starting to build track, and focus on industry, then the tenders could make sense. But, since my services are off line, and no cargoes accompany the engines to the s...

Express D'Orient
So far, this looks like a great scenario for micromanagers. I'm still in my 2nd try (1st only lasted 5 years), but I found a serious error. I wondered why I did not see a message or something about the express speed being increased, so after several years I broke down and checked the program and saw ...

Re: Crystal Cotton
Until recently, there were very few really difficult RT3 scenarios. Thus, the goal of many of my scenarios is to make it unlikely that the player can get gold on the 1st and sometimes 2nd try. Usually, I warn about this in the introduction. It was developed when 1.06 first came out, and the scenario...

Re: 1.06 Crash in 1.04b Scenario
I pobably want all of the stuff that would come with a new pc - probably an i5 processor with whatever a Geforce GT220 or G310 video card gives and this is my gaming machine. Vista32 don't take more than 3GB of memory and that's what I got. My current PC works ok in RT3, but does get sluggish late i...

Re: Red Baron East
Warning to All - this is a long scenario. Think about it, you build 12 railroads. My games went from 1829 to at least 1950, and usually longer. But, for most of the game, you are not managing a lot of trains.

Re: 1.06 Crash in 1.04b Scenario
The crash occurred again out of RT3 (just on AOL), so I think it's PC related - probably the Video Card, based on a message that popped up while it was trying to recover from the latest crash. With this PC being a Vista machine that is 2.5 years old, I'm now wondering if it might make more sense to ...

If you have 3 or more medal points, just go to Iowa or select to get your medal when you fix the next RR.

Re: Red Baron East
Not only is it against the law for them to issue stock without asking you, it is a violation of the scenario conditions. Can you issue stock for your current RR? No, and neither should they, but the AI cheats big time. This problem almost killed the scenario, but much to your regret, it didn't. Hang...
