Kickstarter

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jonshafer/jon-shafers-at-the-gates I will have to watch this one - it's by the guy who lead the civ v team. Looks like civ V, but it will be a war game. Hmm, 1 year away. $80 to be an Alpha, $40 beta or $25 to be a Gamma tester. (All early buyers are testers) I wo...

Sim City

Well, Sim City is coming out with a long overdue remake of the original game. http://www.gamespot.com/simcity/videos/reinventing-the-city-of-your-imagination-simcity-6403384/?tag=Topslot;Simcity;ReinventingTheCityOfY I think we got SMR from Civ IV, another Sid game, but Sim City is from a different ...

Re: Railroad Board Games

Well, I actually sent money to Kickstarter a month or more ago for new maps for Railroad Tycoon (Railways of the World) and hopefully they will come out in July. The maps were not only fully funded, but received a lot more than what was needed. The first new map is for Canada and should be connectab...

Re: Trainz Progress Shots

I absolutely love the Trainz 12 scenes that I have seen on their newsletter and here, but I am more into playing games. As you probably remember, I never make RT3 maps from scratch, but always start from someone else's map. And your logo set was absolutely great for my Railbaron East map. I do own e...

Re: Railroad Board Games

At those prices, I guess it would take more than us to get someone to invest in RT4. I know boardgames are a lot cheaper. Saturday I played a non railroad board game developed locally by one person and I have played another that was financed thru gamers contributing money to the game - the names wer...

Re: Railroad Board Games

Railroad boardgaming continues on the express track. New expansions for the board game Steam have been published and an official expansion pack using the East and Western maps currently available for Railways of the World is in development. My love affair with Railways of the World continues and it ...

Re: Bridging the Mississippi

I have to admit that on the first time thru, a person of my skill level would not get gold. The other lines get hopelessly bogged down in traffic and - that was my goal. I was trying to recreate the log jams that wooden bridges created in busy RRT2 scenarios, such as my NA thru the Ages. Railroads c...

Re: Molse is Closing Up Shop!

Goemoe - actually, I have found the board game to be as addicting as RT2 and 3. But, the game play for the board game is very different from the PC games.

Re: Molse is Closing Up Shop!

I am behind on what's going on here. All I can say is Schade. I thought about using the site a while back, but realized that I forgot too much of my German. I guess die Deutsche are all playing Euro Board Games, many of which originate in German. I was tempted to buy First Train to Nuremberg (2010),...

Re: effect of 1.06 changes

RCR: Hotels, etc work the same with this patch as with the original. Scenario designers have the option to not make them available, so in some scenarios you can't build them. On a related matter, there is a customs house that is available with this patch. I know what it did in RT2, but have no idea ...

Re: Railroad Board Games

And the express is still building up steam. Recently issued (late 2010) (and just purchased by me) Settlers of America: Trail to Rails. It is a Caton series game, but with railroads, settlers who found cities, and goods to deliver by train. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/67239/settlers-of-americ...

Re: Railroad Board Games

While no one seems to be making new PC based railroad games, the board gamers are on the express track. Two days ago I played the western expansion for railroad tycoon with 5 other players and it was really neat. The original map goes to just beyond the Mississippi while the western map continues on...

Re: Crystal Cotton Revisited

Ray: You need to deliver the meat to a South Chicago Station (that covers the south dock) and make sure that the regular Chicago station does not cover the south dock.

I never played this scenario with AI railroads!

Re: Crystal Cotton Revisited

This is perhaps the hardest scenario I developed. In the original playtests in 1.06beta I had successful starts in Memphis because of all of the cargo coming out of the wharehouse and in St. Louis by shipping corn and grain into the city. But, when I tried to play the original recently (which was my...

Re: Civ V

The Hex "square" format is fine if there was a way to display the hex outlines better on the normal map. Have not found it yet but it should be there. On the bottom of the screen and to left of the minimap is where you can toggle resources and the hex outline. However, even with that on, ...

So, now I am in my 4th game as India, and their special talent is to have double unhappiness for each city - 4 read hearts per city, but half for total population - or 1/2 red heart per pop rounded down. They want India to have fewer but larger cities. Nice touch. I need to be a sea power in this ga...

I saw Railways of the World in a game store yesterday, and also by the same person is Age of Steam (hey that's a RT3 scenario from this site) and Steam, which came out last year. They look to be similar in concept.

Re: Civ V

Well, Civ V is out and here are some lows and highs. I have only played one small game plus the tutorial and haven't come close to figuring out this game. It's definitely different than its predessors. Installing the game really stunk - taking 30 minutes just to get a steam account and 2 hours to in...

Railroad Board Games

Recently I have had the pleasure to play two newer railroad board games: Ticket to Ride and Railroad Tycoon. TtR is probably more well known and was created by Alan Moon, formerly of Avalon Hill and The General magazine. The game has been successful, I presume, since there are a number of variants o...
