Re: New house & station themes?

I've been awake for 18 hours and my brain is about flat-lined, so this may drift a bit. With certainty, in 1.05, the "Control Panel" -> "Industry (Overall)" page reads and controls the availability of BCAs (with an industry specification) in the scenario. All other aspects inheri...

Re: Map TGAs

No matter which way I turn this one issue, it still seems ridiculous to have an embedded high quality TGA in the GMP file, then to use DXT or JPEG/JFIF or whatever to generally wreck it in the saves. In fairness, I don't think the fellow who coded the game engine was responsible for every aspect of ...

Re: New house & station themes?

Oh, on that, I can tell you with some confidence that it is mostly true that the EXE doesn't care how stuff is arranged in the 2D and 3D folders. I ran the game for a week with all the files loose and no PK4s, other than some laggy performance, it worked just fine. BUT, and this may be important, i...

Re: New house & station themes?

However, knowing that architectural themes do work and having seen the success of doing it with churches, I tried making additional versions of the Commercial buildings that were keyed for specific architectural themes. This worked as well as the churches. I then tried retail, with similar success....

Re: GP7 A+B unit (Final for real this time)

OK! I got it. I got rid of the rar file you have in the first post. It was read only and wouldn't let me rename files properly so I re-did it in zip format using 7-Zip. Now all the files are named properly. The images extracted and resized to the right sizes, etc. I got it ready to go so I'll get i...

Re: Blender > .3dp import/export script.

There are several times that I have fought with Windows memory caching hanging on to old data. I filed bug report after bug report before finally being told it was a sacrifice made to get the "fastest booting Windows ever". At the same time, I was told that "Windows certified software...

Re: New house & station themes?

Just looking into this some more. The PopTop CtC Expansion files are split into 2D and 3D like the rest of the assets, but differ in that all the 2D Expansion and 3D Expansion files are in one PK4 in each category. The earlier, pre-expansion, files are split into a 2D PK4 for .dds files (profile ic...

Re: New house & station themes?

A kit of sorts could be made to facilitate the change for the inexperienced players. Something to the tune of a bat file + the PK4 unpacker for the first stage; then a bat file, a set of prefab LST files, and the necessary files for packing the PK4s. Work flow would go something like: 1 - move the P...

Re: Blender > .3dp import/export script.

Much ado about nothing... *mutter* I had just posted about being able to rely on the RT3 EXE not reacting well to change in the building thread.... I think the EXE likes to play jokes... In any event, thank you for testing the PK4. At least now we know the problem isn't me finding some way to muck u...

Re: Blender > .3dp import/export script.

Ok, this just breaks my head. I just tested the same PK4 before posting it and it was flat-shaded. I just looked again and it was smooth-shaded. All that had changed was I rebooted the computer in the time in between. It makes no sense that a reboot would change shading properties. !hairpull!

Re: New house & station themes?

Several people have thought about the similar problem with regard to locomotives and cargo cars. IMO the best way to handle it would be to unpack the huge PK4's that live in the game's 3D directory, and break them down into more useful chunks. This would enable quick and easy replacement of the rel...

Re: New house & station themes?

After some time playing with building models, I keep returning to this idea of having more control on the way the maps look. Seeing American-style clapboard churches on European and Asian maps has always struck me as being wrong. TBH, they're a bit out of place even on American maps depending on the...

Re: Map TGAs

I am not sure why it would use mipmapping in that instance when the devs eschewed mipmaps in every other instance of DDS formating. Because they're evil? There may be some truth in that, but I think Hanlon's razor may be closer to the truth: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately ...

Re: GP7 A+B unit (Final)

The latest stats will give them a role to play in most maps. You brought it down to 25% increase in Average Yearly Cost over the single. Usable now. !*th_up*! The extra mileage covered from better performance (esp. acceleration) balances against the higher maintenance bill/engine purchase cost. Bet...

Re: Blender > .3dp import/export script.

Since posting last night, I've tried the 32bit and 64bit versions of Blender 2.74, 2.75, 2.75a, 2.76, 2.76a, and 2.76b. I've checked my Python install for issues, none detected. Python 2 is 2.7.12 (vers. 2.7.13 came out of beta on 17 Decemeber). Python 3 is 3.5.0, until 2 days ago, the latest stable...

I was going to send you a message earlier this morning, then family members showed up at the front door and insisted that I be merry in a different room than is my wont. **!!!** I understand. I remember stuff like that happening to me many moons ago. I'll grab what's in the first post and...

Re: Blender > .3dp import/export script.

I'm using 2.74 for RT3 stuff but I wouldn't even try to guess which subversion. There's a date and time on the splash screen: 2015-03-31 13:39

I will try another version and see where it goes.

Re: Blender > .3dp import/export script.

Hey hang on a doggone minute. I haz another idea. This one might even be useful. Since the .3dp import process drops information for normals, it follows that if you took one of the flat-shaded .3dp's and imported that into Blender, then exported it straight away using the smooth-shaded sc...
