Re: A Few Important Questions

1. You aren't earning enough money to build the track? There's serious bank to be made by hauling cargoes from areas of high supply. Cliff made a good post in the topic for this map. 2. Build some industry. A Tool and Die on top of a stack of Iron in the mountains somewhere. Check Gumboots' post fo...

Re: A Few Important Questions

Generally speaking, if you're playing Europe World, electrics far outmatch diesels in cost effectiveness, reliability, speed, pulling power and so on, especially after 1950. In America though, there are some powerful diesel choices.

Re: A Few Important Questions

I'll watch it, theBonobo4! Yes your videos are great. I can get the Silver there, but not the Gold. I prefer playing Europe, Asia and Latin America maps BTW  .

A Few Important Questions

1 - How do I win Gold in the Southeast USA Scenario? I suppose I could say, how to lay 5000 miles of track in just 15 years? That's a hell of a challenge! If you ever got the Gold there, tell me how you did. 2 - How do I start in the PopTop Mexico map? There's no industry, literally nothing zip zilc...

Re: Oh dear, he's done it again (1865 Ten Wheeler).

Never thought about using locos this way. I generally just let the finished goods be shipped by the general stuff trains, and where I do have factories that actually pump out stuff, sometimes I just ship their products to some other consumer market in separate batches, to avoid glutting them. Perhap...

Re: Oh dear, he's done it again (1865 Ten Wheeler).

I have a question for you again, Gumboots. How do you use the Camelback, or any train at all, as a "shunter"? You mean these specific sorts of trains that go on separate or branch tracks from raw material source to factory, then to consumer market?

Re: Oh dear, he's done it again (1865 Ten Wheeler).

I'll give it a look. The Camelback seems useful as a cheap freight train for some specific branch lines. The Pennsy is a good loco, though, but you can never micromanage enough and I often see my consists loaded up with pax and mail. So yeah, in this case, it would be better to use some other loco.

Re: Oh dear, he's done it again (1865 Ten Wheeler).

Hi there, I just got your files for the Pennsy. Yeah, in terms of game balance, in between the Mikado H10 and the Connie, during the 1890-1918 timespan, there's a shortage of a good loco that will really do the job well, at least for America since Europe gets the excellent Class P8 already. So the P...

Re: Oh dear, he's done it again (1865 Ten Wheeler).

1/ The Mogul is set to 80% and the Connie is set to 70%. If you have the Pennsy H3, you should also have the custom RT3.lng for the expanded pax appeal scale. I didn't install the Pennsy H3. That's why there might be a problem with it. I'll try checking out the files again, but hey, what's "80...

Re: Oh dear, he's done it again (1865 Ten Wheeler).

Hi there, I have a couple of questions: 1 - What is the Passenger appeal of the 2-6-0 Mogul and the 2-8-0 Consolidation after the revamp? They all get these weird "Stuck at 1am" figures, but the Mogul seems to earn pretty low from Pax somehow. 2 - I liked most of the changes. However the C...

Re: Oh dear, he's done it again (1865 Ten Wheeler).

Hi there Gum,

On an unrelated note, I found out by using 7zip that your issue with .rar files seems very simple. All you have to do is to right click on a .rar file, click "Properties", then choose "open with" 7zip. It'll open all .rar files normally.

Re: Tricky Question: How to Catch Raw Materials That Are Spread Out

I'll try that. Yep, I mean somehow placing a station does help get the price gradient *a bit* higher, but there must be something more effective. I mean. One of the things that might work would be to work with three steel mills. One to catch the coal, the other to catch the iron, and the third one t...

Tricky Question: How to Catch Raw Materials That Are Spread Out

OK, so I have this question for ya all. Suppose I need raw materials for a Steel Plant I just bought. But then all of them are in far away, spread out sources. I know there's a method, if there's a definite flow of resources from one gradient to another, that can manage to channel most of the disper...

Re: General Strategy Guidelines I Found Useful - Feel Free to Discuss

Another thing, theBonobo4: 1.06 has extra cargoes like Electronics, Machinery, Ceramics, etc... Besides some cool scenarios like Mighty Meiji are only available for 1.06. Another thing I would mention is, I installed new graphics for boxcars and maybe they only work in 1.06. I dunno. EDIT - Oh, yeah...

Re: General Strategy Guidelines I Found Useful - Feel Free to Discuss

Try sourceforge.net for open source video editing software. I dunno if Vegas is, though **!!!** .

You don't need a separate install for 1.06. If only for the extra locos and game maps available here, it's worth it.

Re: General Strategy Guidelines I Found Useful - Feel Free to Discuss

Also, the Bonobo4, I think the RT3 handbook does a nice job of covering it, but you can exploit an AI company on a fairly consistent basis when you're growing to fatten your PNW. Here's the trick: buy buy buy low price AI stock until you have 50% or more of their shares. Go deep into debt if necessa...

Re: General Strategy Guidelines I Found Useful - Feel Free to Discuss

I never get a BSOD with RT3. Try installing the 1.06 patch and tweaking your own video settings optimally: IIRC, I've turned TRansform and Lighting on and now my maps look like a shine, also with High Graphic details the water is very very nice to look at. But you might want to disable these setting...

Re: Building track in mountainous regions?

1. Use a lot of curves.
2. Build tunnels.
3. Use mountain locos like the Fairlie and the Shay.
