Re: Southern Railways "Schools" V class [WIP]

You are tempting me. *,*! I have been bitten by Train Fever, but when you get this one ready, I need to fire up good old RailRoad Tycoon again. Funny thing that you say about 1798 tris. I have checked Transport Fever locomotives and models and even the simple ones start with 5000 plus tris. An...

Re: Transport Fever

I bought this game from GOG sale last fall, but only now I have begun to play it. So far I like it. Sure the economics are slightly different that RRT3 and it lacks of continental railway feeling, but it has trains. Pretty ones. Ok the basic game and especially early period has limited variation of ...

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

Bevel. Thanks. I had forgotten it. In my earlier test I accidentally beveled the whole loco. Perhaps with more precision this time. I think I got the LOD Hexediting. Thanks. Sound simple enough. So each LOD level has 00 00 00 00 buffer in front of new level? I do not have a gaming rig, ...

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

Smooth shade. Thanks. I did not know that. NorrisSmooth.jpg That is a quite improvement. For game purposes, I don't think the boiler needs to be any more rounder. Now I need to think what to do with the tender. Its end could use a little bit rounding, but subdive does not work well with box. LODs, Y...

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

Edit: Just thought of something with subdivide. It can be useful sometimes. If you do want to use it on an existing model you'll have to start by converting the element from tris to quads (Select a vert > Ctrl+L to select linked verts > Ctrl+F > Tris to Quads). Subdivide can do very weird things at...

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

If you want PRR stuffz it's a gold mine. If it aint there, PRR probably never made it. (0!!0) Yes, I know this site. I have studied the drawing and locomotives compare to each other. You have made an huge difference to K4. !!clap!! I usually don't want to use it in the game is did not look right. !...

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

Thanks. I did think that I will nick the setup from one of your projects, but this make easier. !*th_up*! Yeah I have noticed the right click selects. First I was real puzzled, but I think I am slowly getting the idea. I saw tutorial which explained how to switch left click select, but this right cl...

Re: Rolling Stock skinning ideas

May I ask from where you got the texture for Jadgpanther? Renault is a very good choice as almost all armies which used early tanks had that or locally built copies. US, USSR, Italy, France of course and even us Finns had Renaults. StuG III would perhaps been more "anonymous" rather than t...

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

Got it, thanks.

I have used texture view with other models, because with that I can delete camera and light. I dislike light setup Blender has. When I model, I do not really care lighting and shadows. Those make job harder.

But one step forward. :-)

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

Gumboots, can you tell me from this picture of what I am doing wrong. I tried to set the materials, but this Norris is still white in Blender. Norris.jpg I am missing a step but which one. :?: I roughed out the Big Goods some time back. I can give you the .blend and a drawing as a starting point. It...

Re: Australian steam locos

Great work with Garratts. !*th_up*! I have not yet run it, but I certainly will.

Yes, we know that RRT3 does odd things. I think that the game is so old that at the time it was not possible to buy 3D engine for a program. So we are stuck with whater physical model the programmer came up with.

Re: Bomber's locomotive works reopens

Gumboots as you visit this forum regularly, I will ask my questions here. So my 3DS MAX licence run out and sad thing is no more Sim City 4 building. But it has given me an opportunity to invest some time to Blender. I have watched some tutorials and read couple articles. I have played with the inte...

Re: Long time no see

Oh, the fact is that Firefly is the most unreliable of all 1.05Ctc engines. ;-) It is only locomotive with Very Poor reliability. Crompton, Alder, Planet and Beuth all are Poor. Still, sure I use Firefly. I kind of like it even though I have to wear a helmet as shrapnels are flying from exploding bo...

Re: Long time no see

Oh. No I have not read it. Ten years of absence and I have missed a lot. Thanks. Ok that was interesting reading. So Poptop didn't have exactly a speed modifier, but they pick a speed "rating". Whatever, but it has same implication that I thought. In fact, the most interesting thing which ...

Re: Long time no see

Somehow I dug up this old thread and during the weekend I did do some calculations. (I like stats but I am terrible in the math. ) Note: The original formula has an error. The correct line is following: ((Cylinder diameter^2 * Cylinder stroke * boiler pressure * speed) / (driver diameter * 37...

Re: Southern Railways "Schools" V class [WIP]

I'm currently thinking I should maybe try and clear the locomotive backlog a bit, by doing what I've done with the Schools: finish sorting the mesh out, get them running, and leave final UV mapping and detailed skinning for later. It may provide a bit of an incentive to do further work on them, and...

Re: Mexico

I did try this scenario a few times, but I find this one annoying. First there is that lack of cargoes at the beginning. Ok, that is a challenge and just needs a proper strategy, so it is no real issue. 8-) However I don't like the map. Terrain is jagged in many places and many cities are placed on ...

Re: Southern Railways "Schools" V class [WIP]

Oh dear. You are so quick. I did not even open RRT3 or 3D software whole weekend. One of my workmates was leaving, so we had an afterwork party. First too much fun. (0!!0) and then next morning not so much fun. *!*!*! There's no way that green is Bulleid malachite. It's definitely an olive o...

Re: Southern Railways "Schools" V class [WIP]

I think the problem is the weird way RT3 does perspective from some angles. Not only the RRT3, but is is my eyes too. I now know that most Schools had same tender, but when I google pictures the angle make it look like there were several different lenghts. So it so no "problem", bu...

Re: Southern Railways "Schools" V class [WIP]

Oh did not realise that you have already sorted liveries. Apparently there were two different shades of olive, with one favoured at Ashford and the other favoured at Eastleigh. The Eastleigh green was darker, but nobody seems to agree on what shade either of them were so it's anyone's guess. Yes I h...
