Edit: Just thought of something with subdivide. It can be useful sometimes. If you do want to use it on an existing model you'll have to start by converting the element from tris to quads (Select a vert > Ctrl+L to select linked verts > Ctrl+F > Tris to Quads). I have used texture view with other models, because with that I can delete camera and light. I dislike light setup Blender has. When I model, I do not really care lighting and shadows. Those make job harder.

Yes, we know that RRT3 does odd things. I think that the game is so old that at the time it was not possible to buy 3D engine for a program. So we are stuck with whater physical model the programmer came up with.
