Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

@ Gumboots: Another thing that I would be in favor of, and I think you would be as well, would be to replace all of the fantasy locos with something more useful- steamers would be my choice. This might break some scenario's, but if you stuck to retaining the original filename and inserting the new u...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

I think the only issue with eliminating the Camelback would be if an existing scenario has an event relating to it specifically, which would cause a crash if it looks for it and nothing is there. That being said, I do not know of any scenario's that have anything relating to the Camelback scripted, ...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

I do use the Camelback's now and then, depending on the scenario. They can be handy to use as freight-only road slugs, due to them being cheap and relatively cheap to run compared to the other options available in that time period in most scenario's. I am not by any means attached to them or their c...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

Those early 4-4-0's were without a doubt over the top as far as the styling goes. Later locos dropped all of the ornamentation and look more or less like battleship boilers on wheels until the streamliners came along. The main reason for upgrading the passenger appeal on the RT3 4-4-0 is that the on...

Re: Railroad Tycoon 3 Matchmaker

When I saw the title of this thread I thought maybe a "Dating" site was being proposed. Kind of like Farmer's Only.com. I can hear the jingle: "You don't have to be lonely, at RT3 only .com" Followed by a talking loco saying" Shooter game players just don't get it" ^**l...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

Good work on figuring out the loco stats Gumboots. I have suspected that the maintenance charges were not correctly associated with their ratings, but never looked into these things. One question I have is, where did the loco stats in the post you made @ 7:16 come from? Are they from the list includ...

Re: Gaining Personal Net Wealth (PNW)

Gold on Expert in 14 years. I know I could probably do it in less than 10 years if I focused on exactly what is needed and did not just let the game run while doing nothing for some years. The event for Gold does not register until the end of the year. (why?) http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab338...

Ya, I already took a peek at the scripting for this scenario, and saying it is simplistic is definitely going out of your way to be kind... ;-)

Re: Gaining Personal Net Wealth (PNW)

Just as a goof, I decided to pick up that company which had an E-88 and some other electric loco, and then at the beginning of the next year decided that I would go for a company cash infusion (I have no Wool haulage to lose yet), so I started a new company with maximum investor input and ended up w...

Re: Gaining Personal Net Wealth (PNW)

Here is a little update. The last shell company that I had set loose got some of that AI "Magic Cash" and made itself a railroad. I took a look at it, and it is using an E-88!! **!!!** Also, what is going on with the weird "Tanker car" first setup?? (Edit to add: ahh- figured out...

Re: Gaining Personal Net Wealth (PNW)

@ Gumboots: Initially I did have the large selection of Steam Loco's, but after I turned down the Advertising option it eeled me and now all I have available is the V200, go figure. I don't even know what the V200 is. Is it even a real loco? I know that if all loco's are disabled in a scenario that ...

Re: Gaining Personal Net Wealth (PNW)

I had not played this scenario in quite a while, so I decided to give it a run through so I could give some specific advice relating to this scenario. First off, the scenario writer was trying to thwart the "Start company/ take out bonds/ steal all the money" exploit, and ended up just mak...

Re: Gaining Personal Net Wealth (PNW)

I've checked the forum and haven't really found too much advice on this, so I was wondering if I could ask directly... Lately I've been playing the South East Australia scenario, and it has a requirement I've never had to complete before: $5 million in PNW. Every time I try to gain more and more PN...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

I agree that we do not technically have a team yet, but I have at least reached the point of considering working on the industry fixes for 1.06. Just knowing that I am not the only one interested in this is highly motivational. I searched through my laptops and some dvds I burned a while back to tra...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

Yes, I agree that names should be clearly descriptive, and not just to avoid duplicates. In RT3, the duplicate issue is not as big as a game like BK that has many versions of the same thing, and if used in a mod they can cause a variety of issues, from having a unit that has extended firing ranges o...

Re: Beware on Margin Calls

Most players seem to lack any coherent strategy when it comes to stock buying. Buying up shares with only the idea of increasing wealth is generally a losing proposition, and this results in excessive margin buying and then of course margin calls when the economy slows. Options as to what you can do...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

I agree about having a strict naming regiment. Another game I have been involved in modding for a long time is Blitzkrieg, and the amount of duplicate names and whatnot produced for modded items for the game is a huge issue.

Re: Beware on Margin Calls

Once a company's stocks are in decline, it takes some quick action to stop the decline - or at least hold prices stable. You can buy back company stock (short term solution), pay off some bonds (short term again) , and/or check all your trains for profitability and re-route the loser trains (best s...

Re: Making 1.06.1: any interest?

Success! Two things. First, I had neglected the "type cd followed by space" instruction. Second, having the folder you are operating in on a drive other than C seems to be an issue. After moving the entire folder to desktop and following your instructions it actually worked. I am truly ama...
