Re: List of engines for comparison?
Row 33 in the spreadsheet as it's currently sorted is just an empty row that will sit between the last engine currently available and the rest of the list of unavailable engines, to make it easier for me to know when to stop looking down the list when I scroll across to see my results. I just put a ...

Re: List of engines for comparison?
Thanks! I enjoy geeking out with number crunching like that, so it was my pleasure. It's really great to see a game that bears such deep analysis. And absolutely, if you think my product is siteworthy, go ahead and put it up! I'd be honored! Btw, did you notice any of the changes that I made to the ...

Re: List of engines for comparison?
Okay, here's a couple of files. The Loco Chart is the simple list. Loco comparison RT III bears some explaining. To repeat the comment I left with the file, this is a complex messy modeling spreadsheet that you may be able to have fun with if you're familiar with excel. Enter a year at the top, then...

Re: List of engines for comparison?
Ah, now that you mention it, I discover that I have downloaded that PDF and then misplaced it. I have found it again. Thanks. By the way, I've been working on a comparison model for various conditions, including desired train length, grade, cargo type, and route length, and in the process it appears...

Re: Electric engines
You know, I had a great time using 2-D-2's on the Africa map in the Campaign, so I know what you're talking about. Let me check these figures. Okay, looks like the claims about climbing ability that this PDF has doesn't match up with what the trains show they can do when I open up a sandbox. Let me ...

Weather effects on gameplay?
Does the weather do anything? Like increase chance of a breakdown, decrease acceleration, etc? If so, does is have a greater effect on electric vs diesel vs steam? Just wondering. Noticed on wikipedia that the GG1 did have a problem with weather that wasn't fixed until it was discovered: in a blizza...

Re: Electric engines
So after entertaining myself for hours compiling an overly complicated spreadsheet of locomotives available in the game I have some dubious results to report. Let me know if they jive with experience, though judging from previous comments I'm not too hopeful. So, if you're running in the era of say ...

List of engines for comparison?
Just wondering, has anybody compiled a more or less complete list of engines available together with their speed profiles and other characteristics? Was just reviewing the discussion on electric engines and wanted to find some examples of electric engines that could, but came up empty... If not, is ...

Re: Review Of Age Of Steam II-Green Diamond
******, is it time for me to try a scenario on Expert? Just enjoyed playing through, one shot, but on medium, and got gold in like 1903. So many great historical notes and events I'm just dying to find out what I missed by ending so quickly! Hardly worth mentioning my strategy since I only played on...

Finally! Profitable Taverns!
I long ago concluded that taverns are useless in RT III. Yet again, I was wrong, I just had something more to learn about the game! So as far as I can figure, playing the Japanese Miracle I found that taverns can be profitable in four star cities. Probably helps for them to be well connected. Nothin...

Re: Electric engines
What is the advantage of using electric engines over steam or diesel engines in RT3? Besides that the electric engines don't need oil and water. Do you get more power per dollar cost of the engine than steam or diesel? Do the electric engines last longer or break down less? Is the cost of going ele...

Ah, and it would be nice to be able to set train priorities separately for each leg of a route.

Customs house?
Has anybody found the customs house to be worth building, ever? Just curious. Never played RT II so I don't have any feel for it.

Africa & Middle East - Goals?
So I just started playing this scenario. Looks like a great early Africa map, but I'm a little dismayed that I don't see any goals. Not that I'd mind playing a goal-free game for one, it might be quite liberating, but I was just wondering. And also the 25 year limit seems quite short for such a larg...

Re: Features I'd like to see...
And also the ability to undo building placements! I pretty much always save before placing a building in uneven terrain just in case it screws up the track grade. And not a feature but a small bug I suppose, sometimes when doubling track trains stopping moving thinking they can't get to the next sta...

Features I'd like to see...
The big one is being able to ctrl-select multiple cargoes for automatic consists instead of just anything, any freight, any express, or any one specific cargo. I frequently don't want my trains to haul milk or grain away from a station where I have a dairy processor or a brewery, for example, but se...

Re: Esoteric Questions on the Economy
Thanks Wolverine and Oilcan! I didn't know about all the other affects of dividends. Sometimes when the game builds a competing industry and it will interfere with my shipping gradient, if I catch it quick I just bulldoze it. This is certainly one of the more annoying things the game does to you, an...

Esoteric Questions on the Economy
I'm new here, been playing the game for just over a month. I think it's safe to say RT III has become my favorite game of all time, moving the still awesome Master of Orion down to the number two spot after about 15 year on top. So I've got a few questions about how things work that would affect my ...
