Re: Ausgleich

The author declared it finished, and as best I recall it was entirely playable, so I'd say yes, add it to the archives.

The attachment in the above post works, and is the same map that I played back in 2018. Not sure why this never made it to the map lists...

Re: Flynn's Coast

Took me a few too many starts to realize that Rhodes had to be the way for a rail start. Quickly connected to the AI's out of Logan/Ines, Port Blev/Kirkwood, Port Anders/Nibb's Neck and went for a PAX game. Easy sailing from there. Eventually built a couple steel mills in the middle of the iron/coal...

Re: Coasta Calida

New scenario? Yes, please! Gave this a spin. Started with Victoria and went rail only, using my favorite little chugger of the era the Class P8 until the E428 was available then went all electric, upgrading to the E18 in 1936 and using those to the win with the extra PNW challenge on Expert in May 1...

Re: Map Uploading

Maybe disable starting new companies. Always annoying when a gold condition is being the only railroad left only to see the AI start a new company with majority ownership after you merge with his old railroad... And yes I opened the editor to smooth around the placed AI medium stations so I could up...

Re: Athabasca 1905

A bit late with the reply, lol, but I finally tried this rail only. I took a bond for summer building and paid it back in the winter twice early, but otherwise... eerily easy. Used Connies until they were gone then switched to the P8, running in 1.06. All auto-consist with no micromanagement. I thin...

Re: Athabasca 1905

I had a heck of a time with this one some years ago, I'm sure, finding a rail out of Edmonton start to be too slow. Tried this a few times again recently and finally had sweet success, gold on Expert in March 1923. Started heavy in industry around Saint George, a lumber mill first, with three loggin...

Re: Around Cache Valley

While this is a beautiful map, it really would shine best if somebody clipped out the most interesting 1/3-1/4 of the map and built a historic scenario around that. Great for early locos since the creator spent a lot of time carving low-grade routes through mountain ridges, rarely needed above a 3, ...

Re: Arizona Railroads (AZRR)

FINALLY played this. I think I did it wrong, though, as every time I took the chance to start a new railroad, I immediately went back to the Southern Pacific and merged with the new one, rather than "abandoning" my old one. If you're going to play this, I'd probably not recommend trying to...

Re: A Few Important Questions

I'm ambivalent on congestion, as with high speed/accel locos. There's only so much cargo, and sometimes it's more efficient/better rate of return by going with lots of slow, cheap to run locos (Camelback, ahem...) H10's too, and 2-D-2's. Usually I'll double track around stations, but not always. I a...

Re: Endowing hawkdawg?

I'm not sure anybody wants to get so serious as to, say, start a Hawkdawg foundation with a board of directors to oversee the website, or start a transferrable business to own the rights to the domain name and host, or whatever else may be involved. Though I'm sure you're right in the long run, for ...

Re: The Alpstein

First try, gold on expert in June 1928. Very fun, rolly terrain! Made me go the long way around most times, one big tunnel at a 6% grade down from Santis to the north, eventually. As it is, a fine exposition of the terrain and riches of this corner of Switzerland. As a strategic challenge... I'd lik...

Re: Latvia (beta)

Actually going along with the science theme of better locos vs track engineering, I'd go with -25% track maintenance and -60% bridge building, I like the encouragement to go a bit out of the way to avoid grades and expensive bumpy track. Checking my 1932 save, that would have been a cumulative $1M s...

Re: Latvia (beta)

Certainly, after running through the game once, it presents deep challenges for those so inclined, to win in 1938, to win in 1937, to win in 1936??? 1935?!?!? I can see many ways to tighten my play up significantly, and also now familiar with the events, which is fair play on 2nd plays, I say, lol! ...

Hrrmmm?? I'm just playing on my vanilla 1.05 install AFAIK, but in the editor I get the option to add the P2... Did I forget about modifying the install when downloading a map that requested me to add some loco files?

Re: Latvia (beta)

I played on default 1.05, so Class 500 is not fuel efficient, not appealing to pax, and not reliable. For folks playing on default 1.05, it's P8 all the way, and I think the P2 would add a possibly useful tool to the mix. It's fast, but thirsty, yet not entirely unreliable, expensive to purchase and...

Re: Latvia (beta)

Gave Latvian Republic v2 a spin, maybe 6 hours over the past two days. Gold on Expert in March 1939. First try was rail only, didn't get more than 4 years in before starting over with industry. Placed 3 lumber mills in the first couple years, then in the next few years issued massive bond debt to ex...
