Re: RT3 running on Windows 7

Hawk, Sorry for the slow reply. The torrent download was big like 800 MB and it included everything in 2 or 3 .exe files when unpacked. A full RT3 install, then 1 or 2 update jobs. It included the no-CD patch which I liked too (so the CD can stay in its box). I ran the Retail install and then ran th...

Re: RT3 running on Windows 7

Part 2. I just checked on that update that I used. Did not come from H&B. It came instead from a torrent site. So might not be considered kosher here. But it works great. I did start from the retail disk. Then ran the updates from that package.

Re: RT3 running on Windows 7

I installed RT3 to a new Windows 7 installation on my newest PC which has Windows 7 Pro. About 3 weeks ago. I'm not running any compatibility settings at all, and it's working just fine. What I did was install from the retail disk (version 1.00 I guess). I did not even try to run this version. Then ...

Re: Russia

I was paying this recently using the updated map from the Downloads section here on H&B. Interesting scenario. It's important to meet the first challenge for industry profits. Some careful selection of industry will get there. For me, I found that borrowing the first 500K and then using ALL the ...

Re: Crystal Cotton

That confirms what I was starting to realize. This one is XD - eXtra Difficult. I'm just not up for this level of challenge in my game playing as I have enough challenges in my life. I have moved on to some other scenarios. One is the Russia scenario from the download section which is an updated ver...

Re: Crystal Cotton

For me at least it was impossible to do as written. Too many of the financial tools were taken away, at least for my skill level. It's kind of like being a car to drive only to find out the tank is empty and 2 tires are missing. Also it has to have a fun element. As I was trying to lay track and bui...

Re: Crystal Cotton

I just downloaded and tried this scenario in the last couple of days. First without reading any comments , then after finding it vague and confusing I looked at the comments. The scenario starts out very slowly. You can't do bonds or anything in the stock market so it's strictly a cash economy. And ...

Re: Southern US Language for RT3

Thanks for the illustration. The alkyhall and the loomnum probably capture the spirit. Just wanted to see if it sounds really Southerner (does to me, but I'm an outsider), or if it was more of a Texas twang. May need to try a Texas version some day.

Re: Need some general Starting Help

One does not just connect cities as if they all have the same value. The size of the city and the cargoes available make a big difference. At the start of the scenario you want to connect your 3-star and 2-star cities to all places that make sense. And make a profitable train run. A city that's show...

Re: War Profiteer

I've given this a couple of tries. And even at Medium I'm struggling. The limited cash and limited track building have caused me to do a couple of restarts. Have not even been able to connect Montreal to Toronto after 6 years. And now can only get 20 track sections/yr. Cannot afford to build track a...

Nothing says that the alcohol is for on duty. Plenty of off-duty time, at least in peacetime.

Re: Multiple Installations of Railroad Tycoon 3

So, if I'm reading your post right you now have two installs of 1.06, plus a 1.05 install? If that works for you then go for it. I don't use the default install of some programs, opting to install some programs to directories of my choice. Yes, I guess that leaves me with 3 installs. But ...

Re: Multilple Installations of Railroad Tycoon 3

Hawk, It seems to me to be easier to install to the default folder for RT3. In fact some of the patches just go there, if I recall correctly. So what I did when setting up for having the 1.05 and 1.06 versions is: installed and patched up to 1.05 in the default directory [ \Program Files\Railroad Ty...

Re: Naming your railroad

Not sure if you are aware of this jrbrock, but if you add in one of the logo packs, you can at least have the graphic symbols of many of the railroads. As to the naming, it's up to the user when creating the company. Unless the scenario starts after the creation of the company, which is an option.

Re: Compensation for increasing engine costs

But there is no inflation in RT3. All things cost roughly the same throughout the years, with the exception of locomotives. You have a point there. In the RT3 world a 10-ton carload of passengers in 1840 can be worth like 100K. And an 80-ton carload of passengers in 2000 is worth about the same thi...

Re: Problem with ports, warehouses, and passenger buildings

In my opinion, the only real solution is to play the campaign under 1.05. Because there are other effects as well, some are subtle, others are in AI behavior.

Re: Compensation for increasing engine costs

I don't think there's anything wrong with the pricing of the engines in RT3. It more or less reflects reality. But the reality of the economic costs is one of the reasons it is less "fun" to run a rail map for a time line of the 1960s onwards. The fast expensive locos only make sense on ce...

Understand that in my original message, and other replies that I gave. I was not complaining about the changes, or calling them wrong. Just trying to understand what was going on. And possibly help others who would read here to understand the versions of the RT3 game. As I have come to understand, t...

Re: Problem with ports, warehouses, and passenger buildings

As I was discussing under the (1.06 patch) section of the forum a couple of weeks ago, it's a version of the game problem. The campaign maps play as designed up to and including the 1.05 version of RT3. Which is the last update from Poptop who released the RT3 game. Version 1.06, which is an update ...
