Re: Over the Carpathes
Revised version of this scenario: --- ATTACHMENT REMOVED ---- This version has minor fixes, including the win/loose conditions and improved reliability for all engines. I am also done with the painting aspect, but the map still has no trees. I did try to spray a few around, but was so unhappy with t...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 9 A beta version... So, once the economy is tuned well enough and I played once or twice in the map, still event-free, I get down to programming. Playing the map once or twice is really useful because it's how I come to understand the "natural" conditions of the map, which is to say, ...

Greece 1857: for testing
Hello fellas! I have been working on a new scenario for sometime now. It's called Greece 1857 and, you guessed it ;-) , happens in Greece from 1857 onwards. This time, for my own enjoyment (and hopefully for the enjoyment of others), I kept a "developer's blog" in another forum in this sit...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
(thanks for the thumbs up, Hawk) NOT-A-STEP One of the things that annoys me the most in the editor is that the oceans/lakes paint cannot be undone, unlike the color paint. What you can see in the image below is the unfortunate result of a misclick. When this happens, the map basically turns to tras...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 8 First train in the scenario To be completely honest, sometimes I run a train even earlier than this. When in doubt, I start the map in sandbox mode and lay some track. That helps me to understand the terrain a little better, and specifically to try out mountain passes and the like. In this ma...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 7 Creating a working economy The most important aspect of a scenario is that is contains a working and balanced economy. This means having resources available for the selected industries, goods produced having sufficient demand and factories being located close enough to raw materials and marke...

Re: Over the Carpathes
.. turning off the engine crashes is an option in the Editor, yes, but it's an option I am not taking as scenario creator in this one. That's because I actually decided they were going to be enabled and would be part of the scenario... that's what I was saying earlier, but thanks for making me clari...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 6 Plotting cities and rivers If you don't like geography, this will be a long and boring task. In this map in particular, since I know little about Greek geography (I know 10x more now than I did a couple of days before, but even so...), it was really difficult to lay all the significant towns....

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 5 Importing the map Finally, it's time to start RRT3 and get into the Editor. I always get to this step very quickly and to be honest, sometimes it's the last step I end up doing. There's a few ideas, almost forgotten, stored in my computer, that are hanging around this stage. Creating a scenar...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 4 Microdem Microdem is the name of a program that is fundamental to turn the super detailed height map used by geographers and other scientists into a simplified terrain to incorporate in RRT3. It's free to download and I suppose it is huge for all kinds of land science. I stick to a basic rout...

Re: Territory Access
Oh, I get it... You want a territory to be "You cannot buy access to this territory" until a certain date/event.. and after that, to become "Access to this territory costs $$$". To my knowledge that isn't possible. If you define limited access and a price, the player can pay up t...

Re: Over the Carpathes
Turning train crashes off is not an option 8-) But I could tweak their reliability (as scenario creator, eheh). Since about half the game will be working under depression conditions, I think it is a tweak towards playability. Thanks for the test report, Sugus. I will look into those silver/gold cond...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 3 Basic History Wikipedia is my best friend when it comes to scenario making... This post is about using it. Since I have already searched around when making other scenarios, I learnt a few "key-words" that always work. The first search needs to be "Railways Greece". From th...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 2 Geography. The sort of knowledge concerning Geography that will be needed to create a scenario is two-folded. First, there is the terrain geography. I pretty much sort this very quickly using an Internet source for height maps. Height maps will later need to be worked on using image-editing s...

Re: HOW TO: create a historical scenario
STEP 1 Coming up with an original idea. I have been attempting (not single-handedly, since there are other European contributers) to even up things a little bit at the archives in terms of EU maps vs US maps. We are trailing behind seriously, but since the geography of Europe is so varied and the sh...

HOW TO: create a historical scenario
After a few creations, I have more or less developed a production-streamline to create historical scenarios. That's the kind of scenarios I like creating - historically and geographically accurate - depicting areas of the world previously inexistent in the archives of Hawk's extraordinary site (this...

Re: Chunnel
to help clarifying this.. the .gmp file which is zipped, once extracted, must go into c:\program files\railroad tycoon 3\maps\ ...or equivalent, for example, if you have Windows 64-bit (growingly common these days) it will be c:\programs (x86)\railroad tycoon 3\maps\ since you seem to know little ab...

Re: new map for rrt3 v. 1.06 ESTONIA (Beta version)
Hey arop I don't want to jump into a negative tone, but there is an issue that we discussed in your previous map and that, once again, you overlook in here. That's the fact that you plot all cities and towns in absurd straight lines. That's basically "shouting" at the player where he needs...

Re: Territory Access
So I have to create a company in the scenario to make it work? Not necessarily. But the event to limit access needs to happen AFTER a company is created, which can happen during the game. As for the AI, there is a mandatory one AI controlled player in the scenario and I want to apply the same terri...

Re: Territory Access
Territorial access is a company variable. If you set it before the player has started any company, then its effects are moot. Try triggering it "after a company is started". Does that scenario have AI and do you wish to have AI companies building in that territory before the player? If not...
