Re: Madagascar Beta
I finally got around to trying this one (downloaded from Archive) and got a big surprise when it came time to develop the Nuclear part for electricity production. Throughout the game I had been issuing 2 rounds of stock at the beginning of every year to generate cash for expansion. I built the stati...

I rather think of it as "astute Tycooning". After all, didn't the railroad barons have some influence on the economy in their day?Gumboots wrote:Handy, if dastardly.

Re: RT3 counts weird (sometimes)
I've found that if I want to keep a Boom or Prosperity economy going when the game is getting toward going for a random downturn I switch to the tracklaying screen toward the end of February or August and keep it there until a week or so into March or September. Most of the time it will not change e...

If someone skilled at using Blender were so inclined, I'm sure a custom "loco" could be coded that consisted of a team of 4 horses, complete with moving legs.

I bet it's a lot faster when you have to get out of bed in the middle of the night to go to the bathroomHawk wrote:I used to be able to get out of bed, shower, and out the door in 20 minutes. Now it takes me near that long just to get out of bed.

Ha. I always thought the purpose of the bakery was to give the game engine something to spawn between your station and your brewery, thus totally borking your brewery profits. :-P When this happens, I just bulldoze the bakery. Only costs $140,000 (I think) and I've often gone hog-wild and bulldozed...

Re: Recommended Mod Tools
The only way to know is to try it and see what happens. DOS command expects to see the ">" as a stand-alone character so using it in the "pk> ..." command may work after all. Sorry I can't help with the actual coding change that would be needed to accomplish this.

Re: Recommended Mod Tools
Using the ">" and "<" in the command line might be a problem because they are also DOS command line parameters (at least the ">" is) redirect output. "dir > dirlist.txt" input at the command prompt sends the directory listing to a file named "dirlist.txt&...

Re: Service Facility placement
That's the bug I have seen too. I'll be interested to learn what you find out about setting a waypoint along the spur track as opposed to setting the service tower itself. I suspect that this will solve the problem. Thanks for checking it out.

Re: Bridging the Mississippi
I think someone found that "stops" (water/maint/station) need to be at least 4 track segments apart, although empirical testing would be the best way to figure out the optimal spacing.

Re: CPU train spamming
When cargo gets moved from A to B (assuming auto consist) it's because the demand (price paid) at B is higher than the current price at A. Once the cargo leaves A and arrives at B, there is a surplus of it at B and a deficit at A. Before too long, assuming that there's more of the cargo at B than at...

Here are a couple made from Microdem. There are two versions, the first with a height modifier value of 1, a mountaintop modifier of 1 and a smoothness modifier of 1. The second has Height modifier of 2, mountaintop modifier of 1 and a smoothness modifier of 1. I can make others if these are not sui...

So are you saying you can't import a heightmap through the Editor or you just can't make a heightmap?

Re: Newfoundland Map - Request
What do you mean by "unable to create a map". Does that mean the "Editor" function built into RT3 doesn't work? Or is it the other map creation thing (outside of RT3) that doesn't work? If it's the latter, there are other ways to create a heightmap that can be imported into the E...

They do something similar to that here in Michigan but instead of using blocks of concrete they use excess electricity to pump water out of Lake Michigan and up into a reservoir. The water is held until they need electricity, at which point the water flows back down through a hydroelectric generatio...

I can explain the first three in the graph above by pointing out that our "friends to the north" keep sled dogs instead of cats, live in igloos, and drive snowmobiles or dog sleds.
