Re: Canyon Lands - BETA Version

I only doubled-up in one city but with profits being sub-maximal it only had the effect of splitting the profits between the two, unlike the first go-round where I doubled up on a few cities and saw greater profit than with only one of each. I bought into Arizona a year or two after the price droppe...

Re: Canyon Lands - BETA Version

So I finally finished and due to an economy downturn for the last few years and my poor management (i.e. weeding out) of non-profitable trains I ended up in 1966 with about $3 M in debt and got no medal. I did manage to meet the PAX goal (3,274 loads) but fell way short on the Hotel/Restaurant profi...

Re: Canyon Lands - BETA Version

I'm only at 1943 right now. I spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year plotting strategy and laying track, and with limited time to play it takes a while. I'll let you know how I fare and give a comparison to my first try.

Re: jpg into your map?

Got that! And how do I put this file into a .tga? You don't. The .tga format is used for heightmaps. If you want to "paint" the map with an image like you've shown, you convert it to a .bmp (24-bit uncompressed as Hawk noted) and then use PJay's "BMP2GMP" program to import it. T...

Re: Canyon Lands - BETA Version

There's a village/town southwest of Page that's named somethingorother ALTER. There's a small mesa next to it, and if it's supposed to refer to a sacrimental table, the correct spelling is ALTAR. I got Gold on Expert with a few years to spare. I was just waiting at the end to get Hotel/Restaurant pr...

I agree. The only thing I might suggest is an initial separation of 1.05 and 1.06 sub forums with your three sub-sub forums under each of them.

Re: Union Pacific map

RulerofRails just saved me a lot of time. All of my observations are covered in his post; I didn't notice the scenery stuff or the bridge crossing problem. I'm at 1869, made all the connections, and have a CBV of over $50M on Expert. I "honored" the unconnected track requirement but bent t...

Re: Central America - BETA Version

What's the year-range for the Canyonlands map? Any real-life historical events surrounding that time period? Adding choice-events that take the game along divergent paths can make for replay value. Thanks for your creations; I too have enjoyed playing them. Glad to hear that you're not going away co...

Re: Union Pacific map

Stock gifts, outrageously high dividends and other favors were showered on politicians and officials either because they helped pass laws to give the railroads higher payments or just to generally pass on the loot. This meant the railroad actually cost more to build than it would have if built with...

I enjoy making maps, but comparing mine to the ones available here on the website makes me look like a complete beginner in map creating. You have to start somewhere. You'll find lots of info on using the Editor on the forum, and a bunch of very knowledgeable folks that can help if you can't figure...

I suspect yes, but it would be really cool if you could get three loads-worth on a triple.

Re: Anyone want double-header Shays and Fairlies?

Sounds like a neat idea. The only thing that doesn't make sense though is that if the Logging Camps are "up in the hills" and the Lumber Mills are "down below", it doesn't make sense to use Shays to take stuff downhill. A good, fast loco would do the trick, and you could just sen...

Re: New map: Gondor

And a few of my comments: Needs more events as suggested by Oilcan. Something to keep interest during the game. I agree that tunnel cost reduction should be reduced somewhat. Loco availability event should give some indication of what you'll get for your money; not necessarily by naming the engine, ...

I just noticed that the state borders between Colorado and Oklahoma are not correct. You've got Oklahoma notching out the southeast corner of Colorado.

Re: Missouri-Pacific Railroad - (Goulds MoPac Empire) - BETA Version

I played this one too. An excellent scenario and very imaginative. Nice map, easy grades and aggressive AIs. I played on Expert and got the Gold in 1899. I bought into AIs early on, gaining a controlling share in most of them within the first 4 years. I pretty much let them go their merry way for a ...

There's an error in the "Chioce" event that gives access (PNW 100). The effect for Choice 2 should be "Set PLAYER variable 3 = 1" not "Set GAME variable 3 = 1".

Re: Zambu Email - BETA

If you stay with the Zumba Incline Railway, ditch the trains that are pre-set; they're 79 years old, and the maintainance charges will eat up any meager revenue they may generate. Take out the bonds when offered the low interest rate (I maxed them out even though the last few were at 6% instead of 5...
