Re: Hard coded buildings

It just occurred to me that freight travels over lake and ocean, as long as there is a port at each end of the trip. And if the cargo flows, then there must be a demand gradient. And so the demand must exist on the water, but it is hidden from view. BTW, I know from experience that this is true for ...

Re: Economics not looking good

Hemp is not forgotten, but it is mired in regulatory issues because it is the same species as marijuana. But as a crop and as a fabric it has many advantages. And it is one of humanity's oldest crops.

Re: Connecting Certain Cities

If the newspaper doesn't report, then there is a problem with either the conditions or the effects of the event. Can you post a screen shot of the conditions and effects? You can use cities to confirm connection events. You don't really need city sized territories unless there is something else goin...

Re: Reference Chart of Game Goals?

I am testing the Excel version with Excel 2003. I cannot make the checkboxes work. When I click on them, I select the image, but the box does not check. When I use the second part of the search, I always receive the message: Sorry. No match in database. Search again. EDIT: Problem solved. It was in ...

Re: Economics not looking good

I have done well betting on China. My shares in a Chinese forest products company are up 60% since October. And a copper company. Copper has come back strong since last fall because the Chinese are still buying it. Canadian insider sentiment (buying/selling ratio by CEOs, CFOs and directors) is stil...

Re: Putting the Miracle back in British Miracle

When I was working with Of Men and Seals , I found that the steamship company needed micromanagement, so as long as the clock was running in game, you had to control that company or company management would immediately go awry. The success of the steamship company could be helped if you had a good r...

You can also try writing an event that closes the mountainous areas in winder so you cannot build and cannot run trains.

Re: Preventing Construction Firms from being built

Construction firms have a pretty strong demand for steel and lumber (one of each per year, and they can really shift the balance on a map. As an individual player, you can remove the Construction.BTY and Construction.BCA files from the Building types folder, but as a mapmaker or scenario designer, y...

Re: How do I include a new portrait with my scenario?

I struggled with this making Athabasca . I had trouble following the directions in the readme file or simply running the little conversion program. In the end I think I loaded the James Hill small file, copy-pasted my image of Arthur Sifton into it, and saved it as a new file. I was working with GIM...

Re: Ecuador - a first attempt at scenario building

Your event labelled 'The Church' is flawed. That is why the sequence did not trigger. You should remove the 'Force Test Against Territories' line in the Conditions. Only the Tithing sequence triggered.

When the required conditions exist, increase territory production by 100%. For some reason the whole text did not make it into my post. I was talking ab...

Re: Ecuador - a first attempt at scenario building

Ok, now I played it, and I won't be so crabby. I started on the coast owning a logging industry chain, and connected everything up in early 1917. I set up a small railway east of the Andes as well. Then I connected Rosa Zarete - Quito - Ambati - Gguana - Cuenca. I built a steel mill at Rosa Zareta. ...
