Re: Ontario Northland

From my perspective, when I create a map, I will think of a few strategies for completing it, and I appreciate when others are there to try it out because they will use their own strategies. This map is a very good example. Although it has gone through a few changes, I wanted to make this map a bit ...

Re: Ontario Northland

Thanks for the review and observations. I caught the 500 cargo loads, not the AI thing. I'll fix that. I'll also look into the industrial asembly line. You strategy is one that I hadn't thought of. I might make an event to prevent steel being produced in Ottaw as in production -200%. I'm also thinki...

Re: Ontario Northland

Thanks and I am glad you enjoyed it. One thing I forgot to mention, and this almost got me a loss, was when you take over another company, you have to make sure that they don't have a train hauling cargo from a warehouse and make you lose. I'll look into the Chicago warehouse, but it is set up to ch...

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

I admit that you are right that cement gets shipped...I was indeed thinking locally. Vegetable dyes versus chemical dyes really is about composition, since there is a chemical process involved in both, hence my grouping them as chemicals. In TM there is a publishing house, same as a printing plant, ...

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

One of my peeves with 1.06 was that it didn't really make a lot of sense in the supply chain that they introduced. Cement is quarried and made right there. Limestone doesn't get shipped to a factory to produce cement since it doesn't make economic sense at all. Nor would there be a concrete plant pe...

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

I think his reasoning was that since steel was quite widely used earlier than 1856, it was a bit bonkers that steel didn't exist in RT3 before 1856. I can see the reasoning there. After all, steel has been around for thousands of years. It didn't suddenly pop out of nowhere in 1856. The concept of ...

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

I have actually ridden trains by a cement quarry. A new skin on an iron mine should do it. Come to think of it, I've also ridden a train past a cereal company. That place smells like roasted cocoa when they are making the Coco Puffs.

Re: Ontario Northland

A qucik note...I just noticed that the ledger continues to say 40 years instead of 50. I'm going to fix that, but it will only say 50 years after Gore. Starting in the Sudbury area requires more capital investment, but is just as effective as a strategy. Do try to keep your bonds down. I have gotten...

Re: Ontario Northland

I made a start on the previous version but will play the new version now. Congratulations you turned up the challenge, nice! I haven't played enough TM to have a really good strategy figured out, but am figuring that a good industry base for income and focusing on the hauls early on is what I will ...

Re: Ontario Northland

This is the final version of this map.

Your goals are to haul cargo and develop industry. It should prove challenging. It's a 50 year map, and it should take that long to achieve all the goals.

I'm going to try to finish the cowboy engines before making this avaialble for general download.

Re: Tomix's Rollingstock

The location of the pk4 file matters. If the pk4 file is in UserExtraContent, then put it in PoptopExtraContent. It should work there. For some reasons it doesn't like some pk4 files in Userextracontent, it likes loose files there.

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

The bakery is a messed up industry. I can't remember exactly what the issues are with it, but I had nothing but grief with it, and ended up making a bakeshop from the bakery, and created a bakery as a separate industry from it. Only the names were swittched. Again, can't remember exactly , but my ad...

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

The thing about canneries is that for the most part they use steel. Aluminum is generally used for beverages, and didn't start coming into use until the 1970s. Canned food is generally in steel cans or glass jars. Perhaps you might want to consider making a ubiquitus Assembly Line. In TM is produces...

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

Thanks Ned for the heads up with that. I had a couple different buildings I was trying with and kept having issues. I started over and tried again and it worked this time. :salute: Experience was my teacher. That's how knew what it was right away. :) Being the resident commodity specialist (IRL) I ...

You might want to wait for the final version. I am really just tweaking it right now, and should be painting the maps this weekend.

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

That's cause by the file names being wrong, best bet is to keep them all the same, i.e. w/o spaces in two name industries.

Re: Ontario Northland

I realized that not having the railyard structures in this map that it is creating some logistic problems with haulage, so I am turning them on in the fina version. For now, just shift+E and turn them on in the special conditions part of the editor.

Re: Cargo & Industry fixes for 1.06

Alot really depends on what you are looking for. TM has both the Cereal Company and a Sugar Refinery where corn is turned into sugar. Considering the world today, sugar should be in every map from 1970 on. :) While the consumption of cereal has waned in the last 20 years, from about 1890 to 1980 it'...

Actually, things didn't work as intended. This should be it now. I am currently at 1918. While I am succeeding, it is proving to be a challenge.

Re: Ontario Northland

I managed to play this until 1920 when I decided that I had approached it a bit wrong. I still think that the goals are achievable, but it will take some doing to get them. At least from what I can tell.

So far everything seems to work as intended.
