Re: Ausgleich

Gave this a try today, gold on Expert in 1904. Plenty of time, and I think the strategy is all down to the tycooning in the first few years. You have to start a company, so do so, then sell your stocks. Then buy into the stocks you know are about to go up. Spread out your purchases, and keep buying ...

Re: Latvia (beta)

I have a flip phone, despite a TI in the house when I was 6 or 7, and programming in Basic before I was 11. Starflight anybody? I use Chrome, and have a PC (MSI) full of bloatware I'm sure. I've become an anachronism. I used to be so forward, but now I just want my old games! And I really don'...

Re: Latvia (beta)

Well what happened from 1914 to 1920??? from 40% to 23% urban! cities destroyed by WWI? And not recovered through the 1930s. Statistics do tell a story, I love them!

Re: Latvia (beta)

Gumboots, have you made a scenario before? I can't recall. You've really taken this one under your wing. I'll have to play again before the final re-release to the archives. Gonna be a bit busy for a few days though. I've been back into RT3 for a few months now, and days off work I play a game or tw...

Re: Gotthardbahn (BETA)

Ahh, there he is. You saw a totally different line over the pass. And still didn't build a tunnel. And, especially after reading about the new base tunnel, Gotthard especially stands in the way, historically, of traffic going straight down from Rotterdam to Genoa. It's the reason Switzerland exists,...

Re: Gotthardbahn (BETA)

Phantom reply from RoR.... And, this is awesome! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotthard_Tunnel At opening in 1881, at 15.003km, it was the longest tunnel in the world. People griped about 11% cost overruns (lowball bid, anybody?) Well, when 11% is $9.1B today's money, um, yeah, I do more than gripe!...

Re: Gotthardbahn (BETA)

You realize the event increases tunnel building by 20% and graded track building by 25%? Every year for 10 years. I'd need a better tester than I am to say how much more that might cost given a decent pace of expansion. I feel like the heavily graded track may have cost $5M-$8M to lay, where flat tr...

Re: Burma

I feel like I've played a Burma map before... but maybe not this one. Fresh and easy. Set all consists to custom 1 troop 6 any cargo and caboose, all P8's. Wasn't too hard to manage growth, though stock issuing make profitability a bit moot. Mostly just following the well-paced issuing of track. Con...

Re: The Baghdad Railway

Started with a Steel Mill north of Konya, steel priced at $67 from a T&D in Adana, enough for production to commence with coal at $32 and iron near $0 and plenty of it within a few cells. Made another industry investment and that was it for 1885. Next year with a bond and more stock issuing, and...

Re: Weidenthal County

Gave this last Europe map a go a couple times. First started with Kriegloks from Weidenthal to Neustadt, slowly. Then with a couple more bonds to Siederode. Decided to max bonds on normal economy, maybe $5.5M at 9.7% average, but my push was just short of Niederlungern from Neuenthal with like $3M t...

Re: Latvia (beta)

I guess I met many goals early, before the dialogues triggered, but that's because I started so flush, of course. I'd still prefer to disable starting multiple companies on this map.

Re: Latvia (beta)

You'd also have to make it no mergers, then, as it's easy enough to gobble back up the companies you spawn, and in fact that's what I did to make sure they couldn't get into trouble, at almost no cost. Just disable starting multiple companies, it adds nothing to the scenario. Fun to think about, but...

Re: Latvia (beta)

Gotta love old map sites! Also, I did play halfway through the first 768 alpha until a CtD upon laying track (argh 1.05...) Only feedback is I was annoyed with the number of furniture factories popping up around Riga... Otherwise seemed to play well, but hard to say, as I used the start to practice ...

Nice Oilcan scenario! Kept me busy throughout! Though easy to anticipate. Just when you think you're going to have to wait... another territory opens up! Took the pulling power option, and Stirlings were golden! So flat.

Re: Africa & Middle East v1.06

Ah, right, I generally play as if unconnected track is disallowed. Can a Madagascar network be profitable on its own? But given that, at least drop the connection requirement to not include anything requiring a suspension bridge (Azores?) And yeah, I never use the Vittorio, but I'm irrationally oppo...

Re: Africa & Middle East v1.06

Wow, RoR, you finished a play?!? I'm 39 years in with 130 cities connected and $300M CBV, so not far out, but every year is a labor of finding ways to get to the remaining towns, finding industry to pump, etc, with over $30M+ in profits in a Normal economy right now. Started at the earliest date, bi...

Re: Latvia (beta)

You can edit the territory of Riga down to a single cell (obviously notifying the player exactly where the station needs to be placed.) Or just preplace the Riga station and reduce starting cash a bit (still reducing the territory... everybody starts out of Riga, right?) I definitely noticed some st...

Re: Latvia (beta)

Class A1? Arg, 1.05, dummy. Class 01 is good, at the right time. Zephyr might be more fun for flavor, though you'd want a caboose, as a reward for Saaremaa connection, with a newspaper in 1932 maybe, to add flash to the tourism pitch. Atlantic? Just got a terrible seed! Only one logging camp west of...
