Other Engines in RRTII Unread post

Can a person somehow install other motive power into Railroad Tycoon II?
If so, have some already been created and can they be downloaded?

Unread post

None that I know of.

Doing this depends upon how good a person is at hacking.

The hard part would be fussing with graphics and animation. There are some tricky parameters governing image size, smoke placement (for steam locos), segmentation etc.

However, if one just wants to "borrow" an existing engine and give it new parameters, then it's possible to alter intro and exit date, reliability, top speed, price, acceleration, grade penalty etc. There's a RT2 modding thread at The Terminal where I have uploaded a spreadsheet detailing several data tables (both their addresses and structure) within the RT2 executable (v1.56, the last patch for the platinum version on CD).

Glad to know that there's still life here. Did I say "still life"? How careless of me!

Maps and mods are alive and well at The Terminal

As an example of what I mentioned above, my "Historical Train Mod" co-opts the GP18 and turns it into the JT56ACe, a record-breaking high-power diesel engine perfected in 2005 (a few years after the game's last patch).

Necrotic threads for necrotic games ;)
