Unread post by Polynesia Rail »

Hey guys! I'm searching a good modern train game where you can:

Build roads for cars
Build own maps
Build cities

Well, take your choice.

Rail Simulator, (RS)
Microsoft Train Simulator, (MSTS)
Trainz Railroad Simulator, (TRS)

They are not games, though. They are train simulators.

Sid Myers Railroads! will also do that, too but it's a game.

All can be found right here in these forums.

They're all about the same. They each have their good points and bad.
RS is the newest and MSTS is the oldest.

Hey! Do cars drive on Rail Simulator roads? I wanted some realism but it seems there are no cars! (in the vids I watched) :-(

Don't know that. I don't have RS.
I do have Trainz and MSTS and they both do.

In Holidays 2009 a new train game will appear, it's called "Train Simulator 2" and it's by Microsoft 8-)

Unfortunately, that project was placed on indefinite hold due to the economy. Translated, it may never be released.

This is from the TSInsider.com site:
By now, many of you have heard that Microsoft has closed Aces Studio, the publisher of Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Train Simulator. This was not a reflection of the quality of the products Aces has developed, the sales performance of the games, or the quality of the team at Aces. This difficult decision was made to align Microsoft’s resources with our strategic priorities. As a result of this difficult decision, development of the next version of Train Simulator is being postponed for an indefinite period.
Microsoft Game Studios is investing significant resources in many exciting and new areas of gaming and entertainment, including Windows games. We believe these future investments will push innovation, community, and collaboration to unprecedented levels and will provide more synergy with our ongoing investments in Games for Windows - LIVE as well as other Windows entertainment technologies.
We are humbled and proud of the passion and support that the Train Simulator franchise has developed. This includes you, the large community of railroading simmers, as well as the vibrant third-party ecosystem that has developed around the game. Thank you for your understanding of our decision and for your continued support.
In other words, they have stopped development on MSTS2 in order to work on the Games for Windows - Live concept. A technology that means you will no longer buy and install software on your computer but instead you will use the software (games, office, etc.) only by using the software on the internet and paying for it on a per-use basis.

Micro$oft plans to take that concept much further. You will not only have to be constantly connected to the Internet as your computer becomes nothing more then a terminal, you will be paying a monthly tribute to use their operating system, all software, and store all your data on their servers where it is subject to hackers and Big Brother snooping - no personal backups. If you miss your tribute payments, your data will vanish.

You will, of course, be charged by the minute for game playing time regardless if it is just personal, or networked.

Watch sales of MacIntosh and other open source code systems skyrocket. Unless, Micro$oft can get a Government mandated monopoly for Internet access.

Then, it is over. (See the private political forum for comments.)

Figures - - - Got Trainz 2006 for $9.95 at Target about a month ago. Sunday at Best Buy, saw "Trainz - The Complete Collection", which includes 2004, 2006, Paintshed and more, for $9.95! !hairpull!

Not sure if 2006 build is same as one I got or a later one. Might have to spring for another $9.95 (+tax) to find out.

Did you patch your '06, Rat? They only released one patch called, SP1. If you did, then you have the latest version. (I know this, btw.) As a matter of fact, if you just recently bought the game, it probably is already patched.

You do that in Train Simulator Editors and Tools. The F1 key pulls up the help menu. Read it.

You're gonna need this site and do a lot of reading just as we all have done.
http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trainsim/index.html

And, before you install MSTS, you must follow these instructions TO THE LETTER, word for word. Read it if you ever hope to have a smooth operating train sim;
(And, if you have already installed it, uninstall it and do it this way.)

I don't like the game, I don't like it at all... In which folder are the new maps you created with the editor?

Reasons why I don't like it:

- I recently played RS at a friend and it was much better
- This game has bad graphics
- It takes very long to make a map and its soo difficult, too difficult for me.

Luckily it was only 5 Dollars. I'm going to buy RS! !hairpull!

After you make a map, you have to set up at least one activity to activate it.

MSTS is not for sissy's. It's 'man's' game. ^**lylgh ^**lylgh ^**lylgh Most people who play it are old farts like me. :salute:
