I'm building some above ground Veggie tubs.
Treated wood is expensive and full of bad chemicals.
So I went looking for the best way to protect wood from rot and bugs.
I found that DNA modified trees have been around for years. There are now whole forests of these special trees.
A Hemlock was crossed with 5 different fir trees.
Gee, I wonder which trees were males or females or if it makes a difference.
The resulting tree is called a Hem Fir. It has open cells which can be filled with a
non-toxic sealer. Kind of a plastic coating I guess. It seals so well that cut ends don't have to be re-sealed.
Learned something again.
