I'm going to Cass, West Virginia Unread post

Hi guys,
Got myself 10 days vacation and am heading to Cass for a few days of it. Thought I'd ride a few trains and ogle at the Shays they have.
Plans are to land on their doorstep on the weekend of the 9th/10th of this month.
Anybody want to go with me?

Here's a short vid of what to expect;

Sure sounds tempting.
What's a good time to call you and discuss more details? I'm in Ohio right now but I should be home by the 5th or 6th. I have your number with me and cell phone so I can call anytime, as long as it's during wake time.

Edit 1: You have a PM

Re: I'm going to Cass, West Virginia Unread post

I'm right in the middle of something right now (news later) or I would go too.

But, DID you know you can rent a caboose for about $190-$200 bucks and they will take you up to the top of the mountain and you can spend the night up there in the caboose and they will bring you back the next day. I wanted to do that this summer but can't(details later)
BE SURE to take some warm clothes with you. You might need them once you get up in the mountains.

And we better see some pictures when you get back. :-D

Re: I'm going to Cass, West Virginia Unread post

Ed is milling it over with his better half and mentioned you, also. I'm staying 5 days but neither one of you have to stay that long.

I've looked into the Caboose and mountain cabin thing extensively but am too old and out of shape to rough it like that anymore. In my younger days, though... **!!!**

Thanks for the warm close tip, I was wondering about that, even in August. !*th_up*!

I lost all photography stuff in my fire and have been looking into a camcorder, sheesh, $300-$500! !hairpull! !*00*!

I don't see that anybody else wanted to go. Sorry, nobody else could make it.

I'll be arriving Sunday, (10th), because Saturday is booked and, I'll be staying about 5 days. (I should get my fill by then. LOL)

Have fun!

After talking to my better half and assessing my current financial situation (after my week and a half road trip), as much as I'd like to meet you up there, my wallet just won't let me.
I spent way too much on this last trip and I really couldn't afford it.

Have fun Rick. Take some pictures for 'Trip to Cass II'. ;-)

Rick
I would have loved to have gone, however with things busy here I couldn't get away. Take lots of pictures, cause I would love to go sometime myself.

Re: I'm going to Cass, West Virginia Unread post

I just walked in from Cass. My 4 day stay is all I could take because of boredom. LOL Cass opens around 11 am and they roll up the sidewalks at 5 pm. That's 18 hours with nothing to do so, I'm home and will edit the vids and post for all to see.

Later,

Well, I can't post my vids. I'm limited to 10 mb. I'll have to work something else out, I guess, sorry...

Try this;

I would have loved to go, and I will again in the future. I should've warned you that there is not any night life (except for the varmits in the woods) and very few places to eat that stay open late. If you like the outdoors and are into camping and hiking it is the place to be. I hope you enjoyed yourself anyway and I look forward to seeing all of your pictures.

Re: I'm going to Cass, West Virginia Unread post

Oh, I absolutely loved the 'opened hours' and the food was great! The restaurant across the bridge stays open till about 9 pm or so and they have really good food there, too.
It was the 'closed hours' that I had trouble with. I'm always busy at home doing something, mostly on my computer because I don't own a TV so, the 18 'dead' hours drove me crazy.
I found out as I was leaving that they do have a library with Internet service and it stays open till about 7 pm. That would have helped a lot if I'd of known that sooner.

Yes, I had a ball!!! !*th_up*!

I'll get more videos up as I get to them... :salute:

2 new videos have been added to mine and Rick's site, for a total of 5 videos.
One of them is only a sound video of the Shay's whistle.

Thanks a bunch, Ed. You can re-size my pics if you choose, too. This is your area of cyberspace and I don't mind how you go about setting it all up over here.

I do have a request, though... I can't seem to set the videos up for a direct click and play mode for those who can't download. Is there a way to do that???

I did resize one pic but the rest seem fine to me.

See my PM for the answer to your request.

I've just added an old 1905 caboose stove for those wanting to model one.

Re: I'm going to Cass, West Virginia Unread post

I may have forgoten to mention that I didn't take any 'tourist' shots, those can be found all over the Internet. I went as a modeler and took modeling shots of stuff to model. :salute:
I have a ton of 'nuts', 'bolts', and 'screws' shots... !*th_up*!
Sorry, no West Virginia scerery at all and, no 'in-train' riding shots either. **!!!**
