Admin registration verification Unread post

As I mentioned in the 'Forum Guidelines' forum, this time I'm using the option to manually verify new registrants to the forum.
While this may seem inconvenient to some, it seems to have already paid off.

This morning I had a new registrant by the user-name of Bryan9000. A quick Google search turn up 9,870 hits on that name, most of which turned out to be forums he joined in the past 2 days. In most cases there were no posts but I did find one forum where his post was edited and appeared to be in a thread about spamming. The web site he had listed in his profile was http://www.gaagle.com/ , which apparently doesn't exist.
I did delete his registration.

I'm making this post simply to explain my decision and hopefully y'all will understand.

Comments are appreciated.

Edit 1: Further searching turns this user-name up at a sex/nude club type forum.

I think it's a good idea to screen applicants. It's a lot more work for you, but helps to keep the board clean. To quote: "For while many are called, few are chosen".

I really don't mind the extra work as long as it makes this place more enjoyable and comfortable for everyone. :)

Well, I guess I'm a newbie again, ****** it! I had worked up to Engineer - or some such - on The Gathering, and on the original HBRR forum. Oh well

Thanks for getting me registered, Hawk. I'm glad to know that the 6,927 hits you found when you googled me didn't cause any alarm.

As you know from my email , I had a little trouble with it , Hawk. I think now that it was all impatience on my part.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back and happy that you are taking these precautions.
Mostly, I'm glad you're still here for us train nuts. I don't really care how difficult it is to get "all aboard".
I have been to the top of the mountain, and I fall down every time.
Yet, I continue to climb.

I do like to think this place is pretty safe and I apologize for any inconvenience but it's all for the best. ;-)

Just something to think about Hawk.
Nanny Administrator - Nanny Government. They all think their "subjects" need protecting and to be saved from themselves.

If you think that it is needed to keep the nonsense spammers out then I am all for it. However, I hope some other posters will fill the void and point me to some safe Porn sites. !*th_up*! Would hate to miss out on anything good. ^**lylgh
