Big Boy 4014
Big Boy 4014
Hey all, I came back for a bit to download some new RRT3 maps, and I thought I would share these pics of the Big Boy 4014 I took when UP moved it from the museum it was on display, to their yard before shipping it up to Wyoming for refurbishment.

Re: Big Boy 4014
Those are some marvelous pictures. When I look at all the "valves" and "handles", a person can see why it took a few years for a fireman to ever pass the test to be an engineer.
I worked for the GN for a number of years in Superior, WI, a few of which used the Challengers for hauling ore trains from the the Hibbing Ore Mines. Then they were changed over to just being "steamers" in the winter season, to help loosen up the ore in the cars, before the cars were hauled onto the ore docks.
In my later years of work, the GN switched to the F3 Diesels. Once the ore at the mines were converting the ore into pellets, the Challengers were probably scrapped. I had found an occupation with the airlines, so lost track of what really happened to that steam power. Will have to check with my Brother, as he still lives in Superior.
Thanks again for those pics.
