Fairlie Locomotive

Unread post by Lone Cat »

Fairlie Locomotive is one of the earliest articulated steam locomotive. the cab is located at the centre. having double boilers, and it has symmetric look. the locomotive itself is capable of bi-directionary tractions. too bad it didn't get any development beyond the 0-6-6-0 for the Double type. the single type also has a very short line of evolution (mainly conducted by Mason in the USA)

for you.
1. What constitutes Fairlie type articulated locomotive?
2. Apart of a set of powered bogie. Will you still call this type of steam locomotive Fairlie if it has tri-sectional frame (like EP2 and GG1 electric loc.), using Walschart valvegear instead of Stephenson originals. and each boiler has its own firebox. the central section is a large bunker?
3. Is there any potential to develop Double Fairlies? Should modern steam design perfects double fairlie?
