Machine Shop issue in 1.06 patch Unread post

The Machine Shop does not produce any machinery prior to the start date for Oil. The production entry in the BCA file for 1 Oil + 1 Steel + 1 Ingot = 3 Machinery should have a start date = 1860 instead of 1800. The start date of the Machine Shop should be 1860, also.

The Machine Shop BCA file could be changed to produce machinery prior to 1860. Additional production entries would be needed starting in 1800. One entry would be 1 Coal + 1 Iron + 1 Ingot = 3 Machinery from 1800 until 1876. A secong entry would be 1 Coal + 1 Steel + 1 Ingot = 3 Machinery from 1856 until 1880.

I have made those changes. I try to upload it for some tests.

Does anyone who is active use the downloadable building above? It's cheatin' to me. At least the coal-iran-ingot part.
Coal (raw) 30+iron (raw) 30+ ingots 100= 3 machinery (200x3=600) 160 to 600. Lots of money in that!

Instead how 'bout - 1 ingot (100)= machinery (200)
100 to 200. Makes machinery more of play in the early parts of the game.

I guess my southern accent ain't completely gone yet! !!howdy!! ::!**!

I never tried this Machine Shop, if you are still running it, care to post a screenshot of what it looks like and those "cheating" profits?

Took me a minute to work out the numbers in your post, until it clicked that they are the base prices for the inputs. I probably understand this best as a ratio. So for the high early profits that would be price of inputs (160) divided by revenue of output (600). (160/600)=0.267

The default 1.05 Tool & Die has an early period Iron -> Goods which gives an even lower ratio of 40/170=0.176, but obviously you still get a lower achieved ROI since the base production of the T&D is half (only 3 per year) with similar build price.

If I was to venture an alternative solution, what about using a higher (wasn't sure if this is correct terminology? :-?) than 1:1 input/output ratio, so that 3 loads of the inputs will only output 2.5 loads of Machinery with that chain? This gets you above 0.3 on the ratio (that's the Brewery's ratio), but still with a multiple input industry.

We are misleading our investors. It should be 600÷160=$3.75 in revenue for every $1 spent on supplies. That's big money. The T&D is something I never realized but 170÷40 is $4.25! If rrt is giving tjat kind of return then it's okay to use that chain above!

I never play. Before 1860 due to lack of industry options & slow steam engines. But because I want to do a full test of Africa & middle east i decide to give it a chance. I'm not missing anything but I. Did discover the blank machine shop, paper, lumber mill brewery, MPP and T&D are all over the place in the 1830s to 1850s.
