password is "railroad" and I have labeled them Step One - Step Seven

for having a answer but I am going to try and sum it up and maybe get it stickied for the next people.

First you need to download and instal Railroad Tycoon for steam , should come with the coast to coast expansion and patched to 1.5 ( when on the main screen of the game it will show you the version number in the bottom left hand corner).

Next you need to download into a new desktop folder the unoficial 1.06 patch.
Patch link half way down this page http://hawkdawg.com/rrt/rrt3/rrt3.htm

After that create another a new folder and download the vista fix zip.
Found in this forum thread : viewtopic.php?f=36&t=2677&p=28950&hilit=steam#p28950

Next you will unzip the vista fix zip in the folder you just created.

Now run the unofficial 1.06 patch exe. after going through the terms and conditions you come across a screen that give you all the install options : keep all checked but the TOP one

Next on getting to the folder patch you need to select the folder that you unziped the Vista Fix 1.06 to
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/T ... epFive.png
after it has been installed you will then go into the vista fix 1.06 folder , highlight all folders and documents and select copy
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/T ... tepSix.png
and then paste this into your steam folder for Railroad Tycoon 3

If this needs to be edited please let me know and If i missed any steps I am more than happy to add additional photos to help.
Like I previously stated all credit goes to europegrad for getting the method , all I am doing is making it easier for the next group of people who download this through steam and want to play.

Re: Steam and 1.06 Unread post

First off, I would highly recommend avoiding the Steam version of Railroad Tycoon. Any changes you make to it will be wiped out if you ever have to verify the integrity of the game cache.
Instead, I suggest getting the cd version of RT3 at either Just Trains or Sold Out.

Next, if you are running Vista or Win 7, I strongly recommend NOT installing Railroad Tycoon in the default installation directory: Program Files (86) or Program Files.
Instead, install it somewhere outside of either of those directories.
Due to Microsoft deciding that any files in those directories should not be written to, installing RT3 in either one can cause problems.

Finally, your screenshots aren't very clear and are a bit hard to read.

I also recommend following the advice discussed in this thread about multiple installs of RT3.

There's also quite a bit of discussion about this already in these two threads.

I will try to clear up the pictures or make them has better resolution.

I will add that I am running 7 and I have had no issues running this in the default steam folder.

Thanks for these instructions. I've just quickly and painlessly updated the steam version, and am running some user created scenarios that require it.

You rule. Many Years after the fact. :)
