Actually, no I haven't. I was just going by the specs for the MB drivers.
I might try that and see what happens.

About the original topic. To me it sounds that it is someway connected to Nvidia graphic card. As the links suggest.

I have a Gainward graphic card. I can't remember who did the chip, but I guess Nvidia. With this better graphic card I can't play RRT3. The game crashes right after launch. What I was able to understand before Gathering's forum died, that the problem was XP ServicePack 2 conflicting too new driver patch. RRT3 patch 1.04 fixed problem to driver 4x.xx, but I couldn't found anything under 5x.xx. I wasn't able to solve this problem and as I play little, I was happy with older graphic card. Some other games released during that time, such as Sid Meyer's Pirates!, suffered from this same problem.

I can live without this better graphic card, but if anyone have ideas how fix this, I would be listing. BTW I use XP and I am relatively happy with it. Only real issue I have is that some older appliances don't work well with it.

According to one of the sites that Ramen Red led me to, disabling windows defender would allow coast to coast & the 1.05 expansions to work with Vista.

Sorry, but I've now tried this and for me, no go. On a hunch I then disabled my security suite as well, but again no go.

On the subject of Vista and XP I would say it's like comparing to a car from 25 years ago with a modern car. Now you have electric windows and all other sorts of gizmos on your car that add weight and complication to your car. With the better engines we should be going twice as fast using half as much fuel. Not so.

Vista has all sorts of neat touches but even now I would agree with Hawk that it is still best to stick with XP for a while longer, if you can. It doesn't require the system resources that Vista does and is well sorted in terms of compatability.

Any sign of a Vista compatable RT4 ?

Regards,

Phil.

I seriously doubt we'll ever see RT4.
Firaxis (with Sid Meier) took over Take2, which took over Pop Top.
Sid developed Sid Meier's Railroads, which didn't fair too well. He had stated he wanted to get away from the Railroad Tycoon name so he came up with Railroads.
You can read some of the comments about Railroads in the forum here.

You don't want to get me started on Vista.
You could do a search here using Vista as a search term and have plenty of reading for a while.

Have you tried installing the C to C and 1.05 patch with Administrator Rights?
One more thing. Are you using WinZip, or Windows zipper thingy? If you're not using WinZip you might try that.

@phil &@all

Have anybody tried to use a VM (virtual Machine) under Vista? I guess, it could be the solution for your problems.

Create a VM with XP and join the physical CD/DVD-Drive with it.

My nephew bane71 has CtC running on his Vista laptop, but trying to recreate what he did does not seem to work for me. His laptop is an AMD 64 bit machine running home vista at 32 bits with a dual core optimizer, with a n experience rating of 3.0, while I'm on a generic Dell with a 5.2 rating. At this point, all I can get is RT3 1.0 and that is a deficient version. The Terrorforming alone kills that version for me. If 1.05, or even 1.04 or whater (wherever that might be found) can't be installed, i don't see much use for RT3 in Vista.

I know the patches here work for XP, as i reloaded RT3 2 weeks ago as a result of the bad 1.06 file (I thought the problem was on my end, so I reinstalled all without a hitch.) But, doing the same in Vista oes not work, as others before me have attested to.

Vista Coast to Coast Success Unread post

Hi there,

I bought an Acer laptop with an AMD 64 Dual Core processor, I upgraded from one GB to two GB's of RAM, it has an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 PCI Express 16X 128 MB shared memory and some other things that are not important to this post in it. My uncle Orange46 just bought a Dell on my recomendation that Vista Home Premium and Coast to Coast will not be an issue. When I installed RTT3 and then downloaded the expansion I had no issues whatsoever unpacking the self-extracting file nor installing it as it was unpacking. I then went into RTT3 and CtC was there just as it had been on XP home and XP 64 bit which I am curently running on my tower.

I became aware of the two other patches .05 and .06 a few days ago, and thus far neither will install on XP 64 bit, I have not yet tired them on Vista being my uncle is still unable to extract CtC properly. I am going to go under the conclusion that either Dell has a setting somewhere to prevent the self extractors from functioning, or they have removed that capability all together being nothing else we have tried works. I have even had my uncle unpack the self-extractor with WinRar and move them manually and it still does not work.

This is my question: does anyone else have a Dell with this issue or have they solved it and if so how?

Thank you

There are 2 people here claiming to have found ways to get RT3 running on Vista (near bottom of page):-

I'll get a new notebook (Dell XPS M 1730) in a few days...I'll see what I can do, trying out every possibility
if everything fails, I'm pretty sure that I HAD Vista once

Re: Unread post

I got it running on my Vista desktop finally!

1. Clean install from the CD
2. Install 1.04 beta patch from gamershell
3. Edit the properties in the RRT3 shortcut as follows:
add "(space)-s9" after the target in the shortcut (that's a blank space, a hyphen, an s and a 9.)
set compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME and check "disable visual themes".

That worked! Haven't tried installing any user content yet (reskins, etc.) - that's next. First time seeing the game at full graphics. Wow!

(has been running on the Vista laptop right along with no problems, even patched to 1.06 with every bit of user content.)

Yeah. Acer Aspire 5570 laptop, Intel Pentium dual-core T2080, Windows home premium, 1GB DDR2 RAM, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. It's the Graphics Card (actually low-end on-board graphics) that does the trick, as according to what I read in those links you posted the problem with RRT3 and Vista is "a programming hack that made it run better on NVIDIA graphics cards, but gives Vista fits."

Re: RRT3 coast to coast & RT3_105. & Vista Unread post

ah, I see...
yes, I think that was introduced in the 1.04 patch, because some people with nVidia cards had problems, so PopTop added some lines in the patch and Vista + nVidia obviously don't like that now...
