//I don't know this is the right forum. But most people asking their problem here, so I sure this is the right place.//
I'm making the terrain for my first map(korea), using Microdem and the Tutorial "HOW TO: create a historical scenario" by burnom.
Right now, I am stuck on Step 5. (which I have to import the map.) The message appeared like this,
"The selected image is not useable by the game. To be useable, an image must be an uncompressed, true-color (24 or 32 bit) Targa image."
But.. I loaded the Targa Image, and I followed the instruction correctly.. If someone have any suggestion?
(I used Photoshop CS3 to merge and to convert TIF -> TGA, the size is (width)x2048 pixel.
Using Microdem.

Re: Using Microdem.
I think 1024 pixels is the maximum size on either side that the heightmap can be. Resample the image (50% reduction) and see if that works.

Well,, I resample it 50%. But it still didn't work..Wolverine@MSU wrote:I think 1024 pixels is the maximum size on either side that the heightmap can be. Resample the image (50% reduction) and see if that works.
Ah,, I figured that I have a problem with 'bit'..
When I change 32-bit TIF files to TGA. it become 8bit..; (Always..)
I tried with Photoshop, Gimp and Irfanview. But it didn't work.
If someone can tell me how to keep 32-bit?

Re: Using Microdem.
When I first tried to open the tif file in Paint Shop Pro 10, I got an error.
So I opened the tif file in Irfanview and saved it as a bmp file. Then opened it in PSP 10 and saved it as a tga file, uncompressed, 24 bit.
I've attached a zip with the tga file in it.

Wow, Thanks. Now I can open the files.
But there is No Ocean! Hmm..

Re: Using Microdem.
You have to paint the ocean in yourself.
Click on the 'Paint Terrain' button on the left, third one down. Then click on the button labeled 'Paint ocean, lakes, or make land again'.
Then click on the bucket and the button with the down arrow.
Then just put your mouse in the lowest area of the map, where the ocean would be, then click.
Voila! Instant ocean.
Before you do that though, you might want to consider the following adjustments.
Load up the raw tga file again, and try these settings.
You can leave the Overall Height Modifier at 1.0, or bump it up to 1.5.
I'd suggest setting the mountain top height modifier to 0.5
You might want to consider setting the smoothness to 4.

Re: Using Microdem.
When making a map in mapmaker, pure red in the tga will be an ocean on a map.

Re: Using Microdem.
I thought he used Microdem to make the tga and mapbuilder to make the map from the tga. It's when you take the tga into a photo editor that you paint the ocean red (RGB 255,0,0).
Also, another trick is to put in a black overlay of the rivers. This will put all the rivers at ocean level and make it easier to see them in the map editor where you paint on the rivers.

You could be right Ned. I don't know.
I know I created the map on my end and easily painted the ocean in with just a couple of clicks (well, 4 clicks actually ).
Edit 1: Well, if he followed Bruno's tutorial, he didn't use the RT3 Map Builder.

Re: Using Microdem.
Sorry you are right...I always refer to the RT3 editor where you import the heightmap as the map builder. I always have become I never knew about the actual mapbuilder for so long. But what I said still applies, just the wrong name for importing the heightmap.
