cant get to run after installing coast to coast patch

when runing the patch i get error at the end "cant create output file c:programfiles\railroadtychoon3\rt3.exe


when i try to run game then get a runtime error. can run the game from version 1.00 from disk

any idea what is wroung? thanks.

I deleted the 2nd post as it was almost identical to this post.

First: Are you on Windows Vista/7/8 and if so did you install RT3 outside of of the programfiles folder?
Second: Have you tried playing up to version 1.03 and seeing if that works?
Third: Have you tried the vista/win7 update file ?

was able to get the patch to install i think lest did not get the error for that, howevere still get the runtime error when i try to run the game still

May have corrupted data ... uninstall and try again. Remove everything ... get new copy of C2C.

have reiunstalled 3-4 times and two differnt sites for the c to c patch. was able to find a 1.02 and 1.03 patch can isnatlled tej 1.02 and run game will installed 1.03 i have same probelm

You still haven't told us what Operating System you're running.
Go back and read Blackhawk's post and try to give us as much information as you can.

You may want to try installing the game outside of the /programfiles folder and in it's own directory. It's likely not the cause of the issue here but it's useful for when you need to find files from the game directory rather than having to go search thru the user/localapp data folders.

That sounds like an error that won't let it patch. I'd make sure you have a non-corrupted file for the patch and be sure to run the patch as an administrator. (Here again it may help if RT3 is installed to some where like C:/RT3 rather than programfiles/rt3 as Windows may not like that you are trying to mess with an .exe file in a window's directory.

That's true BH, if he's running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8. He didn't say but I would guess that to be the case, based on the issues he's having.

running vista on the computer will also try installing in differnt location and see what happends. Thanks all.


updated it from v1 to c to c ran as adim and got the runtime error in dir c:\rt3

Copied the version that gets the runtime error over to older way older computer and it works on that one with win xp but does not work on newer one with vista,not sure if that helps to track down what is wroung with it.

Did you make sure to run the patch on your newer computer with Vista as an administrator? (right click and click on run as administrator)

yup ran as administrator. kinda have gave up on getting it to patch right on this computer will just play it on the older computer, lest it works right on it just slower.

Well at least you can play it somewhere. One other option you could try would be to copy the entire /RT3 folder from your old computer to the newer computer and see if it works. This way you wouldn't have to patch it on the new computer as it would already be patched from the files on the old computer.

The one that works on the other computer is a copy of the one that does not work on this one. so guessing it has something to do with vista.

Actually there's no longer a need to create an account or sign in for the Vista Fix. Likewise for the Coast to Coast Expansion (1.04 Patch), the 1.05 Patch, and the 1.06 Patch.

An account for the archives is required for everything else though.

If the vista patch/fix is the engine.cfg file then yes i have downloaded it and copied to the dir, did not help.
