Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I did not make more money with less trains. I made more Industry profit quicker with less emphasis on trains and not bothering about meeting the train bonus goals- not the same thing. I did not however make anywhere near the four times the industry profit compared to other plays I had that would be ...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

There were 15 AI's running trains, RoR. I understand the supply /demand function of RT3 just fine. I try different things now and then just to see if perhaps I am missing something, and since this is test playing to check a scenario's goals and such I want to be able to provide as much varied input ...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I am both a hardcore Gamer and a Railroad Enthusiast. When I play RT3 I treat it as a game. When I want to watch trains run I go in my train room and hit the throttle. !*th_up*! This is a great map and offers a lot for both regular and expert RT3 players. Maybe you could make a separate Gold event f...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I gave the Beta3 DeepSouth map with the starting cash reduced to 100k a run last night and here is the result: http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab338/JaggedSteel1/MRR/DS_Beta3_01_zps549a8358.jpg I completely ignored all of the bonuses and went all out for LIP. As I mentioned in an earlier post, th...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I just opened a .gmp with TinyHexer. Seems to all be in order, I can see some text strings here and there, etc. I think you might have to be Borg to read most of it though. Here is an idea: create a fresh map, and then save it. Then open that same map and save it with a new name. Compare the code fi...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I think Milo figured out a way to modify .gmp files with a Hex editor, that is to remove the created company data and such.. The map I have been goofing with for years now could use some things scrubbed off of it, I wish he was still around. Back on topic: Arop, I am playing the Beta3 you sent me , ...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

Yes, modding RT3 is a pain. I was considering dredging up King Coal last spring, and a couple hours of staring at the Hex editor quickly dissuaded me. 1.06 is of course the most infamous unfinished item for RT3. The team was swinging RT3 by the tail, had all the code figured out, etc, and then at th...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I used all original buildings to ensure that this Band-Aid will be both backward and forward compatible with all scenarios. If you introduce new buildings this will not be the case. I looked into the crash issue from that saved game you sent a bit further and I am now certain it is due to some of th...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

What version of the map is in the saved game does not matter. I *think* that the saved game includes the entire map and does not require that map to be in your folder to run. It has been a while since I have messed around with this game, so I might be wrong about that though. I suspect the issue has...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

OK, I got the file, BUT, it won't go. Crashes to desktop every time. Not sure what the issue is. I have J zip, but I have always had it unzip things from 7 zip just fine, so I don't think that is the problem. Anyway, thanks for the effort. My posts seem a bit harsh and I apologize for insinuating th...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I sent it to you. After looking at it, do you believe me now? I agree you did well to optimize all the Hotels, Taverns, and Restaurants. My question was how many trains and doubled track were necessary to get this return? I know it is hard to quantify, but the fact that you had double the amount of...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

Without "proper" passenger optimization your Hotels will average about 10k per year. With proper Passenger optimization they will average over 20k per year (20% return). This is far superior to the average ~10% return from resource industries, and is of course, infinitely more profitable t...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

And 25 Million of bonds on the books at 7% percent that I paid off in 1885. I couldn't match that return in industry so the bonds went. If you are not able to get better than a 7% return from industry, how is it that you are making $62 Million per year from industry? I guess your claims *might* be ...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

I got gold in April of 1886. I find this hard to believe. If you are making a claim of that nature I think you should at least show a screenshot, and perhaps explain your method to achieve that. If you really managed to do that, I think you should post a saved game so we can see year for year what ...

Re: New map for 1.06: Rebuilding the Deep South 1865 (beta 1)

Just gave this a play through and I had a lot of fun. I played with 15 AI's. I created the smallest line I could find that would have a decent return (New Orleans to Slidell) and did a buyback and ended up having 100% ownership of my company at start. I aggressively bought into the AI companies with...

Re: Playing Patch 1.05 maps under Patch 1.06

I *think* that is correct, although I have never actually checked to make 100% certain that there are no other differences when playing a 1.05 scenario in 1.06. But, I have been using a 1.06 install exclusively for many years now and have played many 1.05 scenarios without noticing any glitches.

Re: Playing Patch 1.05 maps under Patch 1.06

That is correct, Hawk. The new cargoes added in 1.06 are simply not used when you play a scenario made with another version.

Re: Playing Patch 1.05 maps under Patch 1.06

Sugus' question was about how a 1.05 scenario will play in 1.06, not what the additions to the game made in 1.06 are, OilCan. The extra industries simply don't come into use if you play a scenario made with 1.05 that is played in 1.06 , same thing with the extra math equations and such, so that is a...

Re: Playing Patch 1.05 maps under Patch 1.06

I don't think playing 1.05 maps in 1.06 will cause any scripting issues. I have actually played lots of them in the past and I never noticed anything different (although I have never actually given it much thought), except that you have the haul at a loss option and some extra locos available depend...

Re: Playing Patch 1.05 maps under Patch 1.06

AFAIK the only thing different is the haul at a loss option. I guess there are some different locos available in 1.06 too, that might change some scenarios. I am going to give OilCan's new made for 1.05 scenario a go this weekend on my 1.06 install, I will post anything I notice. P.S: When students ...
