Bugalicious Unread post

Today being Family Day,[ Presidents Day in the States ] My wife and I took three of my granddaughters to Niagara Butterfly Conservatory. The butterflies were beautiful, and there are so many and all different kinds, if you ever get the chance you should go, its a rare chance to see something wondrous. There was a special event taking place, a chance to try something new, it was called " Bugalicious Out of Africa" The three menu items you could try were Mopani Stew made from mopani caterpillars onions and tomatoes, Futari with Cricket Caparti where the bread is made from ground up crickets, and Mtedza Puffs which are cookies made from peanuts and ants. Yes there were people lined up to try out the dishes, its included in the price. Did I eat any? are you kidding me, if one of my grandchildren ask me to eat stuff like that I will tell them....... yeah o.k. then. Now for me this was a real trial I don.t eat so well but I did manage to choke down the tiny portions, and to be honest it was better than some of the other things I have done to please my grandchildren. Now I am a bug eating granddad, so I am cool, albeit a little weird, and that's a pretty fair return if you ask me.
I got up and the world was still here, isn't that wonderful ?

I'm all for trying new things...but eating insects is not quite what I had in mind. Although you always hear that they're good for you...protein! lol

The eldest refused to have anything to do with bugs, she was even frightened of the butterflies. Of course that was news to me I thought all little girls loved pretty butterflies. So tasting bugs was out of the question for her, the middle one tried all three didn't like the ant cookies and found the caterpillar stew too spicy. The little one will eat anything that isn't nailed down, so she had a little taste of the cricket with mango.
My own kids were like that, split between liking conservative dishes and those willing to try new tastes.

There was a warning stating that you should not eat the food if you were allergic to shellfish, so don't laugh, if the world population keeps growing, you may be setting up ant farms in your own back yard. A little dash of Tabasco and anything tastes good with a cold one.

The only insect I would eat is a caterpillar... All the other insects just make me want to throw up! !hairpull!

Hmm...I don't quite get how eating a caterpillar seems okay, but eating other insects makes you want to throw up...

Keep in mind that shrimp, crabs, and lobsters are in the same phylum an insects, and most people don't have any problem devouring these "insects of the oceans".

Ya, but how do you crack open a cricket leg? Do you use a Barbie nutcracker?
